For that idk why.. his bill for our food was cheaper for two hibachi steak n shrimp meals mine was so much more than our meals I’ve never paid the price for two bottle of whiskey for 3 drinks that’s crazy

This is a stellar restaurant — a hidden gem in Washington Square West. The food and service were top notch. We went on a Tuesday evening, when the restaurant was busy with pre-theater patrons. Since we weren’t part of the theatre crowd and had extra time, we tried the Omakase — a fun way to try many dishes and sushi. Everything was fresh and bursting with flavor. This is a special place. If you come before a show, try to give yourself enough time to enjoy the food and service. You won’t be disappointed!Vegetarian options: There aren’t many vegetarian dishes on the menu, but the ones that are there, are outstanding.Try the tofu buns, pickled vegetables, vegetarian hot pot or the cucumber mango roll.

Amazing food. The pork belly noodle bowl was one of the best dishes we have ever ate. The sushi is also top notch. Great service.

Finally got to try Umami with friends after months of trying to make it work. What an exceptional experience! Every aspect of our meal was impressive, from service, to the menu options, to the drinks, and of course the food. Overall prices were a tad high, but for the size and quality of dishes we received I was not disappointed. I also super appreciated the great service we received with solid recommendations and explanations of the menu. Would absolutely come back!

Great omakase experience at the sushi bar. We were shocked this place wasn’t packed. It’s a hidden gem. Alex was our friendly server and was great to talk to. The sushi chef prepared some excellent fish for us and we added the A5 wagyu which was insane ?? I would have loved a description of what we ate because I didn’t follow every explanation that we were given but not a biggie! Will definitely be back.Wheelchair accessibility: Not available. This place is in the basement down a flight of stairs

I am still here and I will not leave until I’ve tried every thing on the menu. My second spicy crunchy tuna roll is on the way.

I couldn’t wait until the end of my meal I’m literally still eating. Beyond amazing. The food is top quality. The price is very reasonable for what it is. I cannot stress enough best sushi and steak I’ve ever had. Our waiter Alex recommended the miso cod and it was ridiculous.

The entry down the stairs needs cleaned up. Our waiter was stressed out (he was the only one waiting tables) and aggressive. The hostess was not very friendly. The food was good. We liked our dishes. The prices are too expensive. We will not return again because the overall value for the money isn't there.

Great omakase, incredible sake selection and Alex, the manager there is the best guide to food and sake you could ask for. You cannot miss here.

This place is astonishing , super excellent baby! Great service, my man Kevin is fluent in 4 languages. We were there last week and he was holding multiple conversations, German, Hebrew and Hindi . Food is over the top, great cocktails and romantic/ sensual atmosphere.

First time at Umami, quickly seated, but service was slow. Waitperson apologized, said pick-up orders were taking time. Presentation, creativity both good. Found oysters and ribeye were over seasoned. My wife said same for two hand rolls. We both scrapped off the toppings when possible. Rib-eye had more fat and gristle to my taste.

I’m blessed to be surrounded by foodies with great taste who save me the effort of finding fantastic eateries. Yes, i may be lazy. I want great food. I delegate my research to minions (friends and family) who have excellent taste in all things.I’ve had extended work visits to Japan and was privileged to have enjoyed many upscale culinary dining experiences there.Umami elevates the Philly food scene. Thank you for an amazing evening.I’m concerned that eventually it may become impossible to get a seat there.
