I rarely write a review when I have anything less than positive to say, but my experience this afternoon was so regrettable that I felt compelled to comment. I found the Lyonnaise salad borderline inedible due to an undercooked poached egg (I probably should’ve said something right away, but I hate being that guy), lettuce drenched in an overly sweet mustard vinaigrette, excessively chewy/firm bacon, and three tiny morsels of asparagus for which I had to hunt. Seasonal mimosa was more sweet than juicy (the purée wasn’t puréeing), and I just generally felt like a bother. I barely ate half the salad and went straight for take out.

Excellent food, without a doubt! I've been twice and I loved it. The first time I had lamb and it was delicious, it was autumn. Beef this time, and it was also very good. The service is very good too. I hope to return.

First time. Excellent atmosphere (I mean who doesn't love distressed red brick), service and food. Love the dogs paintings/decor too. Another home run (I mean who doesn't love dogs).Parking: We walked 10 minutes from our coveted spot at Penn Med curbside meter to the restaurant. To our surprise there were ample open parking spaces curbside at the restaurant. Nice walk in thebiggestlittlecityinamerca though.

Fantastic place in University City! Went on Easter with the family. Food was fantastic. I got the Pork Belly Benedict. So decadent, and delicious. The atmosphere was great, we were seated downstairs in the old wine cellar, and we're in the room with about 3 other families. The service was stellar, quick, friendly, and extremely professional. 10 out of 10, would recommend!

Great place. The room we were in the bird room and it was very loud making it hard to have conversations. Server was fantastic and so was the carrot ginger soup! There was a decent wait, even with a reservation and people were sat before us without reservations. Overall it's a fun, cute place. A must see if you like dogs!!

If you like kitsch and bad food, this is the place for you. They spent a lot on all the dog pictures and other cutesy stuff, but not enough on cooks. My son ordered his hamburger medium-rare and it came extremely rare, not edible. The truffle parm fries were soaked in oil, soggy and tasted sour--also inedible. I had the fish tacos and along with the very small amount of burnt pieces of fish in a limp taco shell was a hot pepper piece containing all of its seeds. To add insult to injury, when the bill came, we had to pay a 3% credit card fee!The only redeeming feature was the service--our waiter was polite even though we obviously were not able to eat. I will refrain from all the doghouse jokes, but seriously, I wouldn't give this to my dog.

We were a party of 6 and they automatically add gratuity to parties of 6 or more so beware. We had brunch and all the food was good. Service was a little on the slow side even though we were not on a time crunch. The table for 6 was a bit small and had barely enough room for all our food and drinks. Overall it was a good spot.

The first thing I did not realize about White Dog Cafe was that it was the "first farm-to-table restaurant in the East Coast." This was a wonderful thing to discover about White Dog Cafe. By the way, the real name should be White Dog Fine Restaurant. Cafe is a bit of a misnomer, but I distract you from the important details. The food. Delicious. Easily the best I had in Philadelphia when I visited. And I got breakfast at a fancy hotel which was so yum. It was amazing to realize that the random place that was picked also got all of their food within 50 miles (50!) of the restaurant. The lamb shank I had with polenta was a wonderful blend. The polenta was adorned with a maple-flavored sauce that brought out the creamy texture of it. The lamb shank was mouth-watering and easily fell off the bone. It being a dog themed restaurant, there was a suggestion to save the lamb shank bone for a dog. Very thoughtful!I did want to say that I was lucky enough to be at the restaurant on the first day of their spring menu. This felt very special as I was able to try the newest things and give feedback. This included cocktails. One was called a Hibiscuits, and the other Day At The Dog Park. Both of these, crazy enough, were dog themed. Lol.Both cocktails had a tea themed. The Hibisucits was fruity and not overpowering. It hid the flavor of the alcohol well. The Day At The Dog Park was sweetened, but had a chamomile accent which brought seemed to be an Old-Fashioned elevated to a higher level. I want to go back for another one of those. Excellent yum!I have to borrow my partner's hands to give this place 4 thumbs up in terms of sustainability. They were a lot of firsts for more sustainable food practices, and there was a thoughtfulness to a lot of the place. They market their sustainable food practices very well, which connects to the freshness and quality of the food on their menu. Businesses looking to elevate their marketing, and their impact on local food systems should look to White Dog for a bit of inspiration. The restaurant itself feels like a house turned into a large dining area. Portraits of dogs adorned the walls, and several small rooms hosted a handful of tables. It makes for private parties and small, cozy dates. They also had what looked like a whiskey barrel inspired basement dining area with the feel of a speakeasy from colonial days. Their bathrooms were small, with some of the smallest sinks I've ever seen.Overall, the experience was amazing. And it was reason for me to rush to Google Reviews so I could share the experience. I hope you will consider White Dog Cafe as a restaurant. If you are a food business owner, I hope you will be inspired by White Dog's business model. A localized food system incentivizes local farmers, which is not just bark, it also makes for some damn good bites.Dietary restrictions: Gluten-free options are available!
