We’ve dined twice at Alla Famiglia and it’s the best Italian restaurant in Pittsburgh. Their portions are massive and we’ve always had enough for lunch the next day. The three things we recommend are the grilled octopus appetizer, any of the veal chops, and the seafood diavola. You need to see the size of the veal chops in person as pictures online don’t do it justice. We thought the Cavatappi tasted better than the Cacio pasta, even though Cacio costs more. Overall it’s pricey for Pittsburgh, but the quality is superior and you get enough for lunch the next day. Another tip is get a bottle of their spicy olive oil on the way out. I add it to many dishes for an extra kick and it makes for a great present.

I found the menu rather limiting. I really wanted to try their veal, but the four choices for what was served with the veal weren't very appealing, so I ended up going with a chicken dish that appealed me. It was good, but not great. The house salad was excellent, as was the pasta dish I had. I did not appreciate being forced into using valet parking. I did not feel the restaurant was worthy of the prices.Parking: This is an industrial location with a fair amount of street parking, but we could find no open spots. The restaurant does have a satellite lot a couple blocks away, but they force you to use their valet service to access it.

Bizarre restaurant.Regarding the decor, it appears to be a Chinese restaurant remodeled, which doesn't exactly evoke "italian", but I had been anticipating dinner here for a long time so whatever. In my reservation, it was made known the event was for my birthday, we had even confirmed it with our waitress after giving our IDs for drinks. Spoilers! They don't do anything for birthdays, or at least nothing was offered to us. Like, not even a little bit. Okay, so why even ask?First impressions: the reason this place is fully booked a lot of the time is because they have a grand total of about 7 tables. It's an illusion. So, we got there at 6pm. Not kidding here when I tell you there was a mouse in this restaurant, 20 minutes into our visit. Neither me nor the person I was with are particularly petrified by mice or anything, so I quietly told him. The little thing was small (thankfully), but he was under our table by the wall, and we had attempted to beckon a waiter to take care of the situation. It took about 4 tries(?!). I had never seen a mouse in a restaurant before, not even at McDonalds, and especially not at a fine dining establishment that charges over 50$ for their entrees?!In the end, the mouse crawled into a tiny cranny, and the waiter said "I'll get it later". Okay. You do that. (He didn't.)So, the food. It's not great. I really wanted to like it in the way that you really want to like anything you're about to pay more money than you should for. The pasta, I'm pretty sure, is canned, and I had gotten the Veal cutlet (about $55?), which was a grave mistake on my part. Tasted awfully like cheap country fried steak. The person I was with, however, ordered a stuffed pasta, and it wasn't half bad at all, but the sauce tasted like Ragu. By the time we had gotten our entrees, we were there for 2 hours. We didn't even order an appetizer. There's also a lot of bugs here because these simpletons keep the door open constantly.Be wary about the wine, as this place charges 5 times the actual worth. For instance, we had ordered a bottle of the Strev Moscato D'Asti, which ran us about $79. It's $15 dollars for the bottle online. This excessive scalping is not normal. As for the service, I'm pretty sure the writers gave up on us once we saw the mouse, figuring it wasn't worth being hospitable or anything beyond the bare minimum given the first impression.I'm not sure why this place has supremely excellent reviews. Do people just have wool over their eyes? Is it because me and the guest I accompanied looked younger than 54 and weren't stock brokers? I wouldn't exactly know, but who am I to judge them? If you enjoy this restaurant, I am genuinely happy for you, but for the rest of us that desire an upscale experience when we burn our cash, literally any other establishment is better.Parking: The concept of mandatory Valet in what is essentially Southside is, in of itself, extremely hilarious. It's a small lot with about 8 spots.

The food was incredible, from the apps to the salad to the cacao e pepe with the hot oil. Then the main course of Veal chop pizzaiola, which was off the charts!

Wendy the waitress was amazing. She did a fantastic job and was always there to serve our needs. The pasta on the menu was amazing as was all the sides we had. The only down side was that I wanted a Bolognaise pasta and Wendy told me that it was not on the menu, but they could make up a batch for me. First off, unlike the other pasta's on the menu that were amazing, the Bolognaise dish that the chef threw together for me was mediocre at best. Not to mention, I was charged $46 for the sauce and $3 for the noodles? For a plate of pasta that was not good at all. When all of the other dishes offered much more of a delicious pasta at half the cost. Long story short, don't order off the menu and you will enjoy this very much.
