HGI restaurant with predictable breakfast menu. Ordered buttermilk pancakes with turkey sausage links. The pancakes were heavy and nondescript. The sausage links didn’t seem cooked with a mushy inside. Pancakes and sausage shouldn’t be difficult. Very nice staff. But based on this breakfast this kitchen isn’t up to par for an HGI and I stay at lots of them.

Sam was excellent! The service was amazing and the food awesome! The fries were top notch as they were soaked, blanched and double fried! The chicken sandwich was hand battered and very juicy! The burger was cooked perfect at medium with all the toppings. Sam made a great Manhattan for my husband! I don’t understand the ratings on Samantha/Sam, because she a great young lady who works hard!

Very nice property, well maintained and friendly staff. Room was well equipped and the bed was comfortable. Valet parking was efficient and there's a package with AAA that saves on that. restaurant and bar were a plus.

Convenient option for dining while staying at this Hilton. I think our server's name was Samantha (that was what the receipt said,) but she was great. She was the only one working tonight, making drinks and serving but she was very kind and attentive. Food and drinks weren't bad at all, and the space was very comfortable.

The breakfast from the Sunday buffet left much to be desired.

Nice and clean hotel but not very up to date in its decor. Great proximity to the University of Pittsburgh. Not very fancy but definitely adequate. No self parking or street parking available. Had to pay $30/night because I didn't feel comfortable having my family walk in that area at night.

This was a nice place to stay while I visited my kid who attends CMU and lives in the neighborhood near this hotel. I walked to Aldi and another grocery store and was able to make breakfast for us with the convenient kitchen so it felt like home away from home!

Overall room was nice. My door lock jammed once. Bathroom sink hot water handle not secured well to the counter top same in shower. Neither didn't allow washing up but gave appearance that needed updating. Glad to have refrig, microwave and coffeemaker. However coffee maker was in need of cleaning. Kind of gross. Got stuck in the elevator. Hit call button and engineer got me out pretty quickly. Seemed like no one was surprised that lead me to believe this happens occasionally. Went to bar at night for a cocktail. One bartender who also was serving all the tables. She was very nice but I felt sorry for her cause the restaurant must be short staffed. Valet service was pretty responsive. Overall nothing horrible but seems like some things need addressing

I always stay at Hilton Garden Inn Pittsburgh University Place. Sam and Ashley that work in the bar/restaurant are always up beat, friendly, and with a big smile on their faces. Always great to see them after a long day. Their attentiveness and service is always appreciated. Blazee is also a great guy and provides excellent customer service. The front desk employees are always friendly, professional, and courteous as well, as are the valet attendants. Add clean rooms and lots of towels, and there is not other reason to stay anywhere else! See you again next week Sam, Ashley, and Blaze! Keep up the great work!

We toured Pitt. Easy walk around campus. Close to great restaurants. Hotel staff very nice and accommodating. Provided cot and Chris very helpful. This is our second stay for campus tour. We plan to come back for our next college visit in the future with another kid. If one of them goes here, this will be our go to hotel.

A decent hotel in the area - but I prefer the Marriott across the street. The Oaklander by Cathy is even nicer (but of course is more stars than these hotels, so not a fair comparison to make).Breakfast is included at the Marriott hotel, it is not included at this one. It's $15 for the "buffet" - but they really don't have much to eat, just some bagels, yogurt, potatoes, fruit... Wish they had an omelette bar or a menu you could order off of instead for breakfast items as opposed to the standard hotel breakfasts. That said, the breakfast was decent I guess - it filled me up and that's all that really mattered - was just here for a quick work trip. The gym in this hotel has no windows and not that much equipment/very old equipment. The elevator also was super finnicky and you had to press the buttons multiple times in order to get it to move - super annoying. The heat/ac in the rooms were really loud too which was annoying and they didn't have any room slippers. When I called and asked for shower caps, I had to go down to get them - usually they bring them up to you.I have Hilton silver status through my AmEx card - but when I got to the hotel they claimed that I don't have status - and thus refused to give me the free water bottles. Very strange...The one nice thing, despite all these annoyances, is that when I asked to be moved to another room (my original room STANK of smoke!!), EJ moved me into a suite (an accessible room).

BED BUGS! Don't stay here! We made our 5 day reservation about a month in advance, my sister was having a brain tumor removed at upmc 3 blocks away and we needed to be close. I found a bug in the bed the following afternoon and captured it in a water bottle. They did change our room and called out their entomologist to come look at what I caught. He confirmed it was a bedbug and even found a couple more in the bed. They did treat that room, comped us our stay, had our laundry dry cleaned, bought us a dinner, and sent us a nice gift basket. However we were never compensated for our suitcases that had to be thrown out. In all our years of traveling, I've never seen bugs anywhere! The stress, trauma, and sleepless nights aren't worth staying here!!!!

The experience has been horrible. There was miscommunication amongst staff which led to confusion about my costs and my check-out. Being in the Honors program I thought would somehow help me since I was a frequent patron in different cities and towns - but never had an experience like this. The general manager and the corporate offices were no help. Hope if anyone else goes there you do not have the experience I had. Traci Edmunds

There are 3 basics that I expect to be included in the price of a hotel room. If any of these 3 are missing I honestly haven't gotten what I paid for. 1.) A clean room 2.) a bed comfortable enough to sleep and 3.) a hot shower. Anything beyond that are perks that can raise or lower the rating but not part of "what I paid for" So... I recently stayed over night and there was no hot water. Zero. Thank God I was checking out that morning so we just got dressed and decided to shower at our next hotel. There was no one at the front desk when we left to report this problem to and we had no time to wait around for someone. (We were already behind schedule since we couldn't shower.) I reported this on their internal survey and got a "sorry we were working hard at fixing the problem." response. I'm sure they were but I honestly think they should have offered a partial refund. Disappointing

Don’t stay here! Found a bed bug in the sheets ?They did change our room, called an entomologist and had the room treated, comped our stay, paid for dry cleaning, paid for a meal, and bought us a gift basket. Very nice of the manager but was never compensated for our suitcases and did I mention bed bugs!!
