Love this place for date nights and fancy dinner dates! Great fresh food and portions

We made a reservation for a special date, received the confirmation for Sunday at 11:30 am via email at the moment of the reservation and also on the day before. We drove 30 minutes with a toddler just to get there and see the restaurant closed. We waited, called, knocked, no answer. We checked the restauran’ts website, which states the opening time as 11:30 am. We checked google, which states it as 10am. And yet, we had to spend our anniversy lunch at Mc Donalds because by then our toddler was screeming with hunger. It is a very disrespectful restaurant. If you choose to book reservations through an automated service online, at least have the courtesy to check the reservation placed. A JOKE of a place.

Enjoyed the Shrimp pasta Special! Nice little spot in Mt. Lebo. We will back here again for sure.

I've never left a review, certainly not a bad one. This however, needs to be shared as it was easily the worst meal we've had in Pittsburgh and I hope I save someone else the trouble. It was not a very cheap dinner either. We arrived for my birthday dinner and noticed only one other couple on a Saturday evening. We dressed nicely to celebrate my birthday and the waiter was in jeans and a hat. A group of six came and saw the menu and left - they had the right idea. Food: We were seated and handed a menu that looked NOTHING like the one online. It said drinks on the outside but contained what we were told was the 'COVID' menu. NOT what's on their site (and no advertising for a different menu). It's VERY small. Entrees included only a few seafood options and a $75 surf and turf. Nothing French about the menu at all, and it sort of felt like they bought tomatoes and arugula and were cleaning out their fridge/freezer. I ordered scallops, which were served on a very bland, but rubbery scoop of mashed potatoes, in a pool of butter, old bay sprinkled around the rim of the plate, and raw cherry tomatoes pushed into the potatoes randomly. I had to use a knife to cut into the scallops. I couldn't eat it and left the $30 entree mostly uneaten. The raw tomatoes were the best part of the meal. Drink: Wine glasses were on the table when we arrived to set the table. I requested the house Cabernet and was told they had none. She said they had one of each red, white and rose but could not describe the type. She brought the open bottles to the table for us to see (we couldn't tell either after seeing them). We got a glass of red and white and both tasted as if they had been open for days. This would cost us $15 a glass. There was no cocktail menu but the waitress offered to make us something. We requested an old fashioned because that's simple enough to request and make. It wasn't the worst I've had, but was pink from the cherry juice and very simple. Also ended up being a 'premium' cocktail on our check despite never asking or telling us what type of whiskey we were drinking. One of the most expensive meals we've had in Pittsburgh and simultaneously the worst. We skipped getting a birthday dessert and left hungry.

Made a reservation weeks in advance. Got the confirmation via yelp a few days before. When we arrived, the restaurant was closed and no one would answer the phone. We will not attempt to come again. What a waste of a drive to the South Hills.

A group of six of us went in to eat here. We were the only ones in the restaurant for quite a while due to Covid. The chef was very accommodating with my dietary restrictions and the food was wonderful. we all said we would be very happy to come back again.

Well... this was an odd experience. In a time when we all owe businesses some grace as they endure this "Covid climate" I am writing honestly in the hope that conditions will improve at Jean Louis. For $110 before tip, we shared an appetizer, had two entrees, shared dessert, and ordered one cocktail. PROS- The entrees were delicious and cooked to temp. The entree meat quality was solid. The piped in music was lovely. CONS- The restaurant was freezing cold. Our silverware was dirty and our dinner plates badly chipped. The bar is poorly stocked. The menu is very limited and devoid of French cuisine. No bread is served yet there are bread plates on the table. Entrees are protein and mashed potatoes with a sauce. No vegetable. No garnish. No frills. The singular dessert selection was awful and not as described. We were in and out of there in... 65 minutes? Summary: For well over a hundred bucks for two, our meal fell far short of a dining experience. It almost felt like we were there to help them clear out the fridge of remaining food before they close their doors and I sure hope that is not the case. We would love to see this restaurant recover and rebound to what it was prior to Covid. It used to be enjoyable! In its present state I would not return and I can't imagine who would. (Before making a reservation it might be worth a call to see what is on the menu for the evening. If you're looking for a French meal you may need to look elsewhere.) Will check back on Yelp to see how things go from here. Wishing you luck, Jean Louis.

We had a really lovely birthday dinner here last night. Wonderful food (a beet salad, a crab cake, truffle fries, then scallops, a Black Angus filet, pappardelle with mushrooms) and extremely nice service. We'll be back.

Best crab cake in Pittsburgh. Great authentic French bistro. A gem in the south hills!

I was very excited about trying this restaurant. Unfortunately, I ended up very disappointed with the service, dinner menu, and lack of drink menu. The website is very misleading. I do believe this restaurant has a lot of potential. I hope they can improve things and be successful. I personally would not return with how things currently are. Two stars only because the food was good.

Hardly a French restaurant. No bread! Portions really small. Menu pretty different from what was online. Food was good, ambience was nice, our waitress was really nice and attentive too.

We made reservations for of all days...Valentines day! I should have known when the reservation times were WIDE OPEN...that something was wrong. The menu on their web site looked great! The menu we got upon sitting down....not so much. There was nothing actually “French” on the menu unless you count the French onion soup. Nothing that we wanted to try was on the menu. No cheese plate...no charcuterie plate...no duck...I asked if they had any pate laying around??? I was told the quality would have suffered if they had to make it in a large quantity....OK! The restaurant was empty! When our appetizers came...I asked for bread. NO BREAD!!! A French restaurant without bread!! You must be kidding me!! Our entrees...mediocre at best. Dessert...they had one choice...and...No creme brûlée???? We left extremely disappointed. However....Our waitress was...a lovely very pleasant young woman. This wasn’t her fault! Whoever is in charge of this place better get their act together. The restaurant atmosphere...is very nice looking.

Our Valentines dinner was amazing. my boyfriend had the wagyu ribeye and I had the filet mignon with lobster and they were phenomenal. We also loved our server Alexa who was busy, but took the time to converse with us as much as she could. We had wonderful time!

Ordered papardelle with a mushroom cream truffle sauce and added crab...So deliCiouSSSS. Also ordered a side of truffle fries which were really good too. Apparently their menu switches up...can't wait to order from there again and see what new things they have. I give it 5 gold staRs!

Pretentious and unacceptable service. Their website not match their UberEats menu or photo of menu even in Google. I expect their online menu to be accurate. I drove to the restaurant without a reservation and after standing in front for 7 minutes, I was turned away with the guy saying they were "fully booked." The restaurant was EMPTY except one couple. I asked about doing a take out order and the guy repeated that they are "fully booked" and don't do take out despite being listed as doing both dine-in and take out. I expected much more based on previous reviews. I will not attempt a repeat visit. Not even in a Michelin restaurant in New York city would behave this way. Covid precautions wouldn't even make sense as the excuse in this situation either.
