had a great time with friends and met lots of cool people!! cool energy!! took really cool pictures with friends with the neon sign! would recommend to people around campuses to meet new friends!ps: the closing song was a bop and really unexpected and the people i met there were singing it!

Bartender at phats 08-13-2022 was amazing she was so attentive and made my night!!!!!! Can't wait to come back! The bouncer with the glasses was so professional and sophisticated he made me feel safe all night! Phats is the premier bar in south oakland

What a fantastic little bar in Central Oakland. The owner is one of the sweetest guys I have ever meet! He was making his rounds tonight asking if we needed anything at all. To my surprise, the woman's bathroom was very clean and stocked with any supplies you may need. When you walk in, there is a pretty decently sized bar with seating. The bartenders were also very kind. My bartender was extremely helpful and patient when I was choosing a drink. A couple more steps back was the dance floor and the bar where food was served. Around the bend to the right was the iconic pink neon sign. I had no idea this is the spot where this sign is. I see it on everyone's social media, so I was happy to finally see it for myself. The outdoor backyard was also very inviting. There was two pong tables and a giant connect four. This bar does get very busy during the school year when all the college students are back in town. I was very happy I was able to experience it when it was less busy. Even with that said, I can not wait to come back!

Tried this place for the first time tonight and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. Luckily the students are not currently in session as I am sure it's super packed on a regular basis when they are. There's a bar in front with a small dance floor, a cute private area off to the side, and an outdoor space in the back complete with Connect 4 and two Beer Pong tables. The a/c being cranked up would have been a helpful addition as I was sooooo sweaty, but I still had a fantastic night. Thanks to Yelp Pittsburgh for this introduction to a cool place in the Burgh and the wicked cool Y2K theme tonight.
I've been going to Phat's for quite a while now, usually just me and a few friends looking for a comfortable place to get a few drinks, see other friends, or listen in on Karaoke Nights. Most nights the experience once you get in is usually decent and is more of a low-key place than you'd find at like Mario's, however on busy nights you can end up waiting in a long line of people out in the cold for nearly half an hour! Also somewhat recently had an experience with one of their newer bouncers, or at least someone who hadn't been the bouncer when I've gone previously, who let in girls right in front of me refusing to even check their ID when they tried to hand it to him and then he gets to me, requires my ID, and proceeded to tell me that I had a fake despite it being a real ID, after it successfully scanned multiple times and him bending it repeatedly -- only to let me in anyways after I said I'd just go to Bootlegger's across the street and tell my friends who were already there to leave as well.

My friend turned 21 the other night and was super excited to go here, only for us to wait outside in the freezing cold for over an hour and a half with a pushing and shoving crowd before finally giving up. All because of some INSANELY rude bouncer who looked like 12 years old who was pointing at girls who were BEHIND US in line who he clearly found attractive again and again to let in. My friend was wearing her crown and sash and everything and we even told him it was her birthday, and asked for him just to let her in at least with the next group, and he just said "I don't care." I just wanted to give her a fun night, and so Phat's was a really really sucky start. I know this isn't a review of the Phat's experience per se, but it really goes to show how much one employee can ruin the whole experience and set a bad vibe for the whole bar. Have fun losing business, because this honestly ruined Phat's for me, and we then regrouped and went to Mario's and had a blast (like I do everytime at Mario's or Hems or Gene's). Thanks a LOT bouncer, hope you had fun on your power trip.

The absolute best bar in the area, hands down. If you want an experience, then this is it. I encourage all to come here. Best of all, it’s a family owned business run by genuine and down to earth people.
