The Red Horse was half full today at lunchtime. I tried the Old Fashioned Burger with rye bourbon aioli - it was awesome! Who needs Ketchup? Home made chips were a wonderful surprise. My lunch date had the Brisket Grilled Cheese and it was also delicious! Yes, we tasted each other's food. The wait staff was super friendly and made our meal even more special. Thank you! The new owners have added their own touches which have updated the Red Horse and we were seated by the wall of desserts. So we had to have some Pie! Ban-offee (I hope I got that right) Their Banana Toffee creation was gorgeous to look at and even better to eat. Pretzels on the whipped cream was a bit surprising, but it worked! Over the years we have tried meals here with many different owners... Now this is the Best Ever!

Stopped in for Sunday brunch. Our first time here and wanted to check it out based from word of mouth. Seated quickly and server took our drink orders. I had a Bloody Maria after inquiring what the difference was between that and a Mary (tequila instead of vodka). Quite good actually. Probably a new preference. My food order was something called a Capricious Goat. Egg omelette with goat cheese, cherry tomatoes, and arugula. Served with home fries. It was a plateful. Nice mix of flavors. And the goat cheese was local.Hubby got the pretzel bread which came with beer cheese and apple slices. The bread was very interesting and reminded me of dense cornbread. The cheese was also quite different from what we were used to. To me it had an almost pimento spread type vibe. Cold with just a touch of heat.Hubby's other small plate was the beef empanada. Two generous sized pieces with a roja sauce for dipping. Golden brown with a very well seasoned filling.I spied their blackboard on the wall with posted drinks and desserts and my eyes lit up when I saw banoffee pie listed. Since this is something I've always been curious about, we decided to share a slice. The presentation as it was carried to our table was impressive! There it sat on it's own little pedestal. The pie itself was very eye appealing. First bite you could tell it was ooey gooey good with all that caramel. The sliced bananas were just right and that crust was amazing too. Very rich dessert and I'm glad we tried it.Service was outstanding. Now I know why this is a popular place. Looking forward to returning.

We came here for dinner on a Friday night and we loved this place! They have a great draft list for beer! We split the pretzel bread appetizer, then I had the French dip sandwich and it was INCREDIBLE. My wife had the mushroom ravioli, my sister had the squash tacos, and my mother in law had the harvest bowl. Everyone said their food was great. The server was attentive, nice, and efficient! The environment was relaxed and the restaurant was busy but it was not loud. We finished with the banoffee pie and it was pretty good! We would definitely come back.

Saturday night, pretty noisy in this small restaurant. Parking lot was full. We were seated quickly. Great sangria on special. Ordered a burger, shepherd's pie, and brisket grilled cheese. All were fine, but not memorable. Dessert Banoffee pie was very good!

We were attending Thon and wanted a nice birthday dinner. I had reservations for 6pm and got seated immediately. I would have loved a table near the fireplace but I didn't know to ask. The red horse tavern looks like a historic old building with an entrance for the tavern and an entrance for the restaurant. We had excellent, attentive service and started with the Korean barbecue ribs. It had a kick to the flavor and was accompanied by a slaw. It was delicious. Our entrees were the salmon and pork chop. Both were so good especially my green beans with shallots. To end this amazing meal was the highlight. Red Horse Tavern is known for their pies and they didn't disappoint. We had a banoffee and peanut butter slice. Both were generously sized and phenomenal. We can't wait to go back during our next trip to Penn State.

The Red Horse Tavern is a cozy little spot located close to Bellefonte and State College. We decided to try it out on a whim, sure glad we did! There's a separate bar area however we tried the dining room side. We were greeted and seated immediately. I tried the chicken pot pie and my husband had the piggy burger. Generous portions and both were delicious!! The service was amazing as well. We will definitely be back
