The dumpling meat has strange sour taste which is a sign of rotten meat. I am not sure if how long ago they made this dumpling. Customer service is subpar when I pick up my to go items

Take out only during C-19 pandemic. I ordered pickup thru GrubHub 3 hours early and the food wasn't ready when I got there. The dumplings are good. I ordered a bunch of different ones. All of them were good, especially the crab & pork soup dumplings. Everything else? Not so much. Skip the roast duck. I paid $13 for mostly skin, gristle and bone with very little meat. I specified no egg in the fried rice, and they still put egg in it. My husband can't eat egg. I spent 20 mins picking out the egg because I wasn't driving 25 minutes back to State College to make them fix it when everyone else was eating their lunch. Like I said, good dumplings. Skip everything else.

Get the juicy pork dumplings. Seriously just do it and thank me later. I had to contemplate my existence after each dumpling it was so good. My only complaint is that I wish they accepted lioncash when ordering online.

Outstanding dumplings. I see others comparing John's unfavorably to Din Tai Fung, but I disagree -- the quality is very good if not exactly up to that level. The spicy broccoli was addictive. For a college town, this is really superb food.

They only place that makes authentic shanghai cuisine here, it’s much more delicate than little Szechuan and yummy cafe if spicy food is not for you.

Ordered late in the evening to go as they were closing. Everything was greasy and we even found plastic pieces floating in the soup. Even the soup dumplings which are supposedly the best of their food weren't all that good. NEVER AGAIN am I going to make the mistake of going to this place.

We were looking for something different from the beer and burger joints and thought we'd try John's Shanghai and are SO glad we did! Some of the best Chinese we've ever had! I'm still thinking about the soup dumplings (must try) and Kung pao chicken... service was no rush even though the restaurant was crowded...decor is nothing special but it doesn't matter because the food is outstanding. This will definitely be one of our go-tos when at PSU.

We went the first time for Chinese New Year. The food choices were amazing. We wanted more authentic Chinese food which we were able to order such as pork soup dumplings and the twice cooked pork belly with chili’s and leeks. But they also have a full menu of the typical dishes. The service was great and the food was delicious. Definitely one of our go-to restaurants!
