The Cajun food at this restaurant is a disgrace. I grew up in Louisiana not far from New Orleans and was raised on Cajun food. My mother was a wonderful cook and her jambalaya was amazing. Once awhile and special occasions we would go to New Orleans to eat and have a good family time . I learned my mother's Cajun recipes and now I cook the way my mother would cook for us. About 8 years ago I moved from Louisiana to the West Chester area for work and decided to check out the local Cajun restaurants in the region . Cajun restaurants between West Chester, Philadelphia and Delaware. None of the Cajun restaurants are spot on with the flavor of true authentic Cajun food. Some of the Cajun restaurants we visited was better than others when it came to the food. Most had great decor/ambiance which reminded me of home and some had terrible decor/ambiance. The worst so called Cajun restaurant we visited was high street caffe in West Chester. One night we decided to go to high street cafe for dinner because I didn't feel like cooking that night and it was a disappointment. By far the food at high street cafe is a disgrace. Ordered their Chicken Jambalaya, Crawfish Popcorn and Lobster Ravioli With Scallops. First in line Jambalaya; hardly any chicken, rice wasn't cooked fresh must have been zapped to get warm (barely) flavor was fair. Crawfish Popcorn; was fried beforehand, microwaved before it was served, externally dry and tasteless. Now the kicker, Lobster Ravioli With Scallops: Ravioli hardly any lobster inside more pasta than lobster, size not very big (4 of them). They looked really odd had a red line in the middle to remind you it had lobster inside (should have known something was wrong by that). Had a flour taste even with their sauce. Lobster ravioli at this place is not worth the 32 dollars they charge. Better off going to the grocery store and buying all the ingredients myself and cooking it myself. It would tasted better and cost a lot less. Now for the ambiance of high street cafe in west Chester. First thing I noticed walking into this restaurant is that the tables are close together. It had a cramped feel to it and it was not busy when we visited but it still felt like a tight space. There is also no place to sit while waiting for a table. So I guess if and when they are packed people you will have to wait and stand outside until a table is available. The decor could use a change and cleaning. I didn't get the New Orleans/ Cajun vide walking in here like I got a some of the other Cajun restaurants in the region . Walking into high street caffe felt like a walking a funeral parlor just a dead out dated vibe. It's like a funeral parlor mixed with antique shop . A unused bar filled with dusty junk . The vents above the tables had dust on them. The junk on the wall had dust on them. They can't clean the dining area I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Some of the other reviews complain about the quality of the food that was served to them . Freezer burn, rubbery. Lazy cooks and owners and staff. The food is not cooked to order it's premade and reheated in microwave. All this adds up to lazy owners, staff and cooks. If you are any nationality other than Caucasian don't bother coming here b/c this establishment make it very clear that they don't want you to eat here. They also charge 10 dollars a bottle corkage fee which is not listed anywhere. The owner Donny has known to be racist and rude to the customers that eat there. If you complain about the food Donny will just yell in your face call you names and tell you how stupid and wrong you are and tell you that you should thank him. Donny you should thank your customers and kiss their butts for eating in your pathetic restaurant. Without customers you would not have your tiny restaurant or your house on the hill or your two Mercedes cars that you have. Donny the racist owner with his massive ego is nothing more than a washed up ex wannabe rock n roller with a rock career that failed. Time to boycott this restaurant

We happened by chance to see this restaurant when I googled Cajun food near me and it came up. The menu looked authentic so we went last Sunday. The wife and I shared the voodoo shrimp as an appetizer, and it was hot but in a great way in that it had a great flavor as well. I ordered the seafood jambalaya, and it was excellent. Every bite had seafood and andouille sausage, all well cooked and flavorful. The wife had the chicken and shrimp jambalaya. The waitress was friendly and informative. We plan to make this one of our "go to" places from now on.

Seriously how exactly does this restaurant get five stars. Try eating this food with just water it’s terrible. I guess you need to bring wine or your drink of choice to make the food taste good. Food is also overpriced. Example take the lobster ravioli. High street caffe charges 32 dollar for four lobster raviolis. You can go to another local restaurant and get the same thing 5 lobster ravioli and a lobster tail for a lot cheaper. What makes high street caffe lobster ravioli so special that they can charge 32 dollars for four little ravioli with barely any lobster in it. A lot of menu items here are over priced. A lot of it is stuff you can get at any local restaurant. High street caffe just changes the name of the food items on the menu to make it sound better. Don’t waste your money at high street caffe. Compare the high street caffe menu with other local restaurants and you will see you can get the same items and better value better service at another restaurant . I was in this restaurant recently with my wife, date night! My wife and I was trying to have a quiet dinner out without the kids so we decided to try this place. The food was awful and the owner decided to come over to our table and hang out and chat . We did not appreciate the owner ruining our date night. If we wanted someone to talk and hang out with us at dinner we would have brought the kids or friends along. Just say hello and then move on . I did some research on the owner found out he is very racist. If we knew this before going we would have never eaten there. I will not recommend this restaurant or show any support for a racist owner! Who ever picked the name vudu for a restaurant needs to get there head examined . Eating at vudu lounge doesn’t really sound appetizing!

I ate here a few years ago and it wasn’t good then. I thought I would give it another chance recently and the experience was not good again . I lived in New Orleans and the food at high street caffe is disrespectful to real Cajun food. I get that most Chesco people haven't been exposed to real Cajun food before, so they think this tastes "good" please, do not use the food at high street caffe as an example of the food the wonderful people of the south are cooking. If you want real authentic Cajun food go south, New Orleans. To add to the bad food experience, the service we received was also awful. Besides the bad food , bad service the restaurant atmosphere terrible, it is over the top. The restaurant needs a make over and a good cleaning and some maintenance. I keep checking back in to see if this place is still surviving. Much to my horror, it seems that it is. I know Donnie started high street caffe but I don’t think he really knows what Cajun food really is Also, they need to figure out the difference between Cajun and Creole and pick a lane.. the two are not interchangeable and any cook and owner should be able to figure that out. Donnie and his wife really should reconsider running/ owning a restaurant . I heard his wife works there too and and I heard that she is not a pleasant person and clueless and knows nothing about owning a restaurant. My opinion if high street caffe wants to survive then they need to fix a few things there. There is better Cajun food restaurants in the area!!! I just heard and saw online that the owner Donny Syracuse is racist. Facebook racist comments posted by the owner of high street caffe. I will not support a racist pig like high street caffe. Boycott high street cafe and Donny Syracuse!!

Can't make it to New Orleans? Not a problem, as it's in our backyard if you are close to West Chester, PA.The menu is as good as it get's and the chef gets an easy 5 stars, as everything has that "cajun" flare.Make the reservation......you won't regret it!

Delicious food, great ambiance, lovely service! A very unique spot with items you won’t find anywhere else. I tried the seafood jambalaya, lobster ravioli with shrimp, pork dumplings, and bread pudding. I would highly recommend all of the above! Seriously good food with such unique flavors to make familiar dishes new. We will be back soon!

Great place. Food was delicious. Some of the best jumbalaya I've had. The owner (I think) Don was also the man. Real cool guy. Putting it on my short list of goto spots. 6 stars.
