We decided to come to this restaurant on the last evening of our holiday in Madeira, the vineyard in which it is immersed and the sea in the distance create a unique atmosphere, the service was impeccable by Monica who was kind and extremely helpful . the food is really good and a huge selection of wines produced on the island is offered. I highly recommend this restaurant to have a unique experience!

The price/quality ratio is lower than average on Madeira. We ordered a tropical salad which consisted of 90% lettuce and broad beans. It was a matter of searching for the few pieces of pineapple and grapes. No avocado or other tropical fruit... very sparse for a main course. We also ordered espada: it was tasty, as it should be and squid salad: also tasty. The risotto was far too moist and lacked creaminess. The dishes were not sufficient as a main course. For 22 and 24 euros we expected more (given the high review score).
Vegetarian options: Various tasty and surprising vegetarian options.
Kid-friendliness: Not child friendly. No custom menus.

Fantastic experience. The service (Deixy) was helpful and above all very friendly. The food was great. No complicated dishes, but basic food. Simple, without strange applications. Since the basic ingredients are of high quality and very well prepared, the result was great.

The food and location are top notch and form a beautiful whole. Surprising menu and authentic flavors. Beautiful terrace from which you look out over the vines, fields and ocean. Beautiful vegetarian dishes including the risotto which is absolutely recommended. Friendly service by the hostess and Deixy :-).

Excellent dinner here with four people on the terrace. Very friendly service, good wines and good food. We can particularly recommend the pork cheeks and the fish soup. Do book ahead if you want the terrace and bring a jacket as it gets cool.
I’ll give credit where credit is due: the food is exceptional and the chef clearly has superb taste, creativity, and preparation. The setting is effortlessly quaint and reminiscent of a bygone ideal.
That said, I had a rather unpleasant interaction with our server, which overshadowed the rest of our dinner. She brought out starters and unfortunately one of them was not what we ordered; a mistake of very little issue which did not bother us originally. After asking if we could get what we originally ordered, the server (wearing a shirt that said Monica who was medium build, young, shorter, curly hair passed her shoulders) bluntly insisted that I did in fact order the plate in front of me. I did not. How do I know? I have never in my life said the word “Aubergine” nor have I ever even read it before (I had to look up what it meant after the fact). The server was still argumentatively insistent that I did in fact order the aubergine, instead of just acquiescing and letting us be. It turns out they ran out of our original order, watermelon ceviche (totally fine, it happens), and I ended up eating the already prepared aubergine anyway (delicious). But, our server seemed to carry the grudge for the rest of our meal with a curt tone and minimal service. Unfortunate to say the least, as Restaurant Bago was exceptional besides this.

I don't understand the other opinions... Apart from the view, the quality of the service and the quality/quantity of the dishes are not at all worth the excessive price offered by this restaurant. In addition, a fee of €4.5 per place setting must be added to the final bill. Disappointment is the word that best describes this dining experience.

A nice restaurant with a beautiful view of the sea and the vineyard. Nice service, but the preparation of the food took a little longer. After ordering, 3 tables were occupied in the restaurant, the soup took 25 minutes, the main course another 30. The fish soup was good, pleasantly seasoned and slightly spicy, but a little cold. The cheeks were very good, falling apart and well seasoned. However, the vegetarian dhal was a big disappointment. On the dhal a rather strange consistency of the lentils, flatbreads downright bad. The creme brule dessert lived up to expectations. It's a good restaurant, definitely one of the better ones we visited in Madeira, however we expected something more, also considering the price of food and drinks. On arrival, we were also warned that the menu was being changed and about 1/3 of the menu was deleted without offering a replacement, which seemed a little strange to us.
