The Love of Bread caused a small revolution 18 years ago when a Frenchman opened a bakery on the south shore, filling a big gap in this underserved market at the time.It was even said that they had the best croissants at the time (surpassed today by rivals, also French). This branch is the first, the first of 4 others, including Brossard which is now the factory for the satellite stores. Not pretty from the outside, the interior is surprising, bright, spacious, clean and lit, facilitating the movement (to the right) of customers.Prompt, friendly and cheerful service from chic and smiling staff. You will find cakes, breads and pastries as well. In terms of pastries, the choice was rather limited when I went to the store (see photo). My choice fell on the chocolate pear: bigger and better made than elsewhere, I recommend it, very good.As others have pointed out, expansion often dilutes the quality and I also noticed that the texture has lost its crispness, becoming closer to industrially produced bread. It remains an excellent choice for passing through the South Shore and one of the pioneers of bakery 2.0 which has now spread throughout Montreal. We hope they stay in the leading group.

I usually really like this pastry, but for Christmas I had the cream sugar log and we were all frankly disappointed; there was not enough cake and too much cream! It was impossible to portion well, it didn't hold a nice slice and broke. For the $47 price tag, we would be expected to get what we paid for. I have the impression that we wanted to save on the cake.

This place is very average for pastries so the rating is based solely on that. The croissants were dry and airy; a far cry from the buttery, moist croissants we got used to in downtown Montreal. We appreciated there was someone there who spoke English. He was friendly and attentive. The coffee was good. The London Fog was fine. Neither were sweetened which was good though I will add that a London Fog at a minimum should have vanilla in it, even if not sweet. I got an almond croissant which wasn't really photo worthy and found it to be dry even though it had a nice moist almond paste inside. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back, but it was an okay option on our way out to see the Montmorency falls.

Unfortunately found that some of the bread looked better than it tasted. We tried the pear chocolate danish - do not recommend. Really odd combination with an entire pear inside the danish. The olive bread was yummy but lacked flavour in areas without olives. Still yummy, but I suggest going with some of the more standard items like butter croissant.
Ginger Ale
Not the best destination for birthday cakes selection....but a very nice and warm stop for a sip of Latte with friends...
