Tucked away in a typical plateau neighborhood is one of my favourite bars in Montreal. The selection of beer is great and the food has gotten a lot better recently, but sometimes the service can be neglectful.

The confinement of the space and the extravagance of the sound volume considerably detract from the experience. In case of excessive crowds, it is advisable to abstain or to improve your vocal skills. I am revoking a star to reprimand the menu designer who failed to specify that there are two types of burgers: vegetarian and bison. For the latter, the adjective “mini” is specified, unlike the first. From this observation, it follows that the vegetarian burger is not small, when in reality, it turns out to be actually miniaturized. This extra negligence could have been worth one less star, nevertheless, the macaroni and cheese stands out for its taste excellence.
They say it themselves on their menu— this is not a restaurant, but a bar that started to serve food so as to stop getting fined/be able to stay open. Their drinks are fine (though options are limited), the bar itself is great, but the food is terrible. Service could definitely be improved as well.

Busy even on a Tuesday night in January, probably because it has a great atmosphere. I also tried the grapefruit cocktail which was decent but strong. Service was quick and friendly.

Very few places can match Else’s cozy candlelit vibe during the night. Else’s is always an amazing choice.
Great atmosphere! Nice place to hangout with your friends and have a great time together. Recommend: Mac and cheese, Shrimp Tacos!
