I really like going to this bar because it's not in the middle of town. It's easy to park in the neighborhood, the drinks are cheap and the food is good. There's also another section that becomes the dance floor, a great space. It's known as a very queer bar. Everyone is always respectful and nice.

( in summary - racist and awful behaviour from staff at L’idéal - if you’re black or brown, you may be policed or treated as a criminal by default by the staff) Went there as a performer for an event being held at the bar/ restaurent - immediately on arrival, the front of house staff were unaware of what was going on and voiced that- after much confusion, my group was led to a back room by the STAFF - which we as performers assumed was our « backstage area ». The staff were very strict and condescending and distrustful of us (also we’re all black and brown). They put us in this random room that happened to have a bunch of podcast equipment - which we did not touch and DID NOT choose to be in, although a backstage area was required for us (we would’ve taken any private area they could provide)! The staff continued to police us, would tell us we couldn’t perform in many areas of the venue, would pop into the back room to monitor us, and just speak to us in this awful tone as if we were only causing havoc- and not HIRED to perform for an event held at the venue. Also for context - I have worked at MANY venues and have never been treated so awfully - we were eventually KICKED out of the back room and told we are not allowed to unwind there, only change between our performances and two staff members watched over us as we packed our belongings and kicked us out of the room, watching us as if we did something wrong. It was an extremely unsettling experience.

Festive evening for New Year's Eve! Beautiful place, excellent choice of wine, good atmosphere, beautiful people, but the food...it was the big downside of the evening. We opted for the $85 + taxes ($97.73 all-inclusive) plan. First of all, we learn on site that it’s a sharing menu, a concept that I love. On the other hand, the portions were tiny. Without exaggeration, here is what I ate:- half a deviled egg- a beef meatball- a small slider with pollock salad (not crab)- a little bread- 2 small pieces of lettuce with a slice of orange-a tablespoon of mashed potatoes- 2 slices of ham- a small cheesecakeI mentioned this to our server and he said that the kitchen made the portions accordingly to the people per table. Hard to believe since there were 6 of us and had the same portion as the table of 4 next to us. I understand that we are in a recession, but the reflation on my plate is unacceptable. Failing to eat, we decided to fill ourselves with 5 bottles of wine so as not to have an empty stomach. The party was nice but we had to leave early because we were all hungry, too bad!

Nous sommes allés manger à l’Idéal Bar et Contenus samedi dernier pour célébrer le 30e anniversaire d’une amie. Il y a 2 mois, en date du 31 août , nous avons réservé une salle privée pour l’occasion avec Émilie. Nous avons fait plusieurs recherches et nous avions sélectionné cet endroit pour la salle puisque nous avions prévu des décorations, des jeux, une playlist privée, etc. pour l’occasion. De plus, nous avions un menu spécialisé pour notre groupe. Le menu a aussi été une raison pourquoi nous avions sélectionné cet endroit parmi tant d’autres. Nous avions donc partagé le menu, sur notre groupe Facebook de l’évènement, avec tous les invités.La veille de la soirée, après 2 mois de préparation, le restaurant nous contacte pour nous aviser que nous n’avions plus la salle, qu’ils ont aussi réservé la salle à un autre groupe de 40 personnes "PAR ERREUR" la même soirée, par contre, ils nous offraient une section dans le bar. Nous étions sous le choc, on ne pouvait pas croire ce qui était en train de se passer. Nous avons contacté d’autres restaurants qui offraient des salles privées, mais comme c'était la veille de la soirée, c’était chose impossible.Lorsqu'il était le temps de commander la nourriture, on se rend compte que nous n’avions plus le menu promis par Émilie (courriel à l’appui). Nous avons aussitôt avisé la serveuse qui n’avait aucune idée de la situation et qui ne pouvait rien faire, elle est donc allée chercher une autre personne…la gérante peut-être, ce n’était pas Émilie, elle ne s’est pas présentée, mais cette personne est la raison pourquoi j’écris cet avis aujourd’hui. Jamais on ne m'a autant mal parlé et manqué de respect, dans un contexte de service à la clientèle, j’en suis encore choquée tellement cette personne était impolie et irrespectueuse. En gros, le changement de menu n’était pas son problème et elle ne ferait rien pour nous aider, j’avais le courriel comme preuve, pour lui montrer ce qu’Émilie nous avait promis, elle ne l’a même pas regardé, elle s’en foutait royalement. Elle a dit, « c’est ça qui est ça, pis ça ne changera pas, en plus j’ai un groupe de 40 personnes qui vient de passer sa commande donc il n’y aura aucun changement pour vous ». Elle a dit ça sur un ton tellement irrespectueux, aucune compassion. Je lui ai dit, « Ouias, le groupe qui a volé notre salle? » Elle m’a regardé avec dégoût et m’a dit « tu n’as surement jamais travaillé avec le public pour me parler comme ça ». Parler comme ça? J’ai seulement relaté un fait et mon commentaire n’était pas dirigé contre elle, mais vers la situation. Elle devait certainement passer une mauvaise journée pour être aussi bête et désagréable. Honnêtement, si ce n’était pas la fête de mon amie, je me levais et « sacrais » mon camp. Quel manque de respect! J’aimerais dire à cette charmante personne que je travaille avec le public depuis des années, avec des clients importants et si je leur parlais de cette manière, ma gestionnaire m’aurait rencontré pour mesure disciplinaire. Inacceptable!Je commande finalement une bavette (je voulais le tartare de bœuf qui n’était malheureusement plus dans nos choix). Aucune cuisson ne m’a été demandée, la bavette était froide et pas mangeable, plein de ligaments…c’était de loin la pire bavette que j’ai gouté dans ma vie. La soirée avance, il est 10h et la serveuse vient me voir, elle m’oblige à payer sur le champ, je lui dis que mon conjoint est dehors et qu’il va payer dès qu’il arrive (je veux dire, c’est quoi le rush?), elle me dit que je dois payer tout de suite. Je lui demande un café, elle me dit que je dois aller au bar…je regarde le bar, il y a tellement de monde et aucune place pour moi.C’est la deuxième fois de ma vie que je fais un « review » négatif sur un endroit, parce que je n’ai pas de temps à perdre dans la vie et parce que je suis quelqu’un qui n’est pas difficile ou négative. Par contre, cette fois-ci, je ne pouvais pas garder en silence cette horrible expérience. Si vous souhaitez organiser une fête à cet endroit, pensez-y bien, parce que notre soirée était tout

Nice place but there are definitely better wine bars. Gnocchi was pretty good but I was really craving the beef tartare which wasn't available. Don't really proactively try to help you pick a wine. Service was pleasant but not super attentive. Decor was nice but not intimate or unique. Music wasn't bad, glad they played a The Postal Service song haha.

Amazing staff <3 , the service is quick and friendly, and the staff provides great recommendations. Great selection of beverages (although the non-alcoholic versions were extremely sweet from the syrup). The toilets were clean (worth mentionning, right?). Only complain is how loud the music was. I know it’s a bar, but I drank three pitchers of water just to ease my sore throat from trying to speak to the person next to me.

Amazing. Wine, food, vibes. Loved everything. Cute space, staff was very nice. Enjoyed a really fantastic rosé that was a little darker in color (as the bartender explained-bc the grapes had been macerated so it was kind of in btwn a rosé and a red and it was just the perfect summer wine). The food exceeded expectations. The endive salad was stunning and delicious-perfectly dressed, so light, fresh, delicate yet very flavorful. Highly recommend. Also enjoyed the deviled eggs and the cheese board. Everything was exceptional. Simple yet executed beautifully.
