for the ambiance i put 4 stars because your place is so beautiful that tv on the wall takes the beauty away and also distracting for the class restaurant you are - apart from that I could not ask any better - my first time wont be my last

A veritable institution for Portuguese cuisine in Old Montreal, Porto Mar offers all the classics you'd expect. The setting is in keeping with those original stone-brick buildings accented with wood trim offering a somewhat somber moody atmosphere. All very historic! Given the configuration of the room, there are several seats at the front with large windows facing d'Youville street and then a cozy similar sized section in the back (itself divided into two by a walkthrough zone) deep into the brick and old wood look. For our meal we opted for the table d'hote...We started with the Caldo Verde Soup (very good but could have been a bit more flavorful) and the Mixed Salad (it was a mixed salad). For our mains we had the Grilled Half Chicken (very moist and tender meat) and the Fish of the Day - Cod (also very good) with a small serving of potatoes and vegetables on the side. Dessert was a traditional and very good Creme Caramel (Flan) and the Chocolate Mousse (good).Service was friendly and helpful with the meal being served promptly. Enjoy!

We went for lunch and ordered special of the day and calamari. Both were very good and dessert at the end was so delicious too. Highly recommend. Service was very nice as well.

Great location in old Montreal. Historic building is beautiful and tastefully renovated and decorated. Seating is well placed providing diners with enough quiet. Good music and not too loud. Food choices excellent with guidance from server. Had a Portuguese kale soup and cod croquettes as entrés. Steak and grilled bass as mains. Desserts were ok. Reasonably priced. Will go back.
