Fantastic food meets great cocktails in the dimly lit and sultry ambiance. Ask for Anthony if you want the best drinks. A sure shot for date night!

For such a short stay in Quebec, I never thought I would come across this real little pearl in the welcoming city of Montreal with this restaurant. I was really surprised by the quality of the products, the excellent cuisine, an atmosphere whose general atmosphere particularly charmed me, and finally the warm service typical of people from Quebec, particularly with the manager Mathilde who always has the smile, full of energy and listen to customers, it's a real pleasure.I HIGHLY recommend this little piece of Asia under the snow of Quebec ❤️

Short version: amazing atmosphere, mid food.Long version: the atmosphere and vibe of this place is amazing but it can’t quite make up for the mediocre (yet pricey) food. They have a nice variety but if you’re expecting it to taste close to the real deal Japanese food, it unfortunately doesn’t. The cold ramen salad is probably the best, and the beef and cheese yakitori is pretty good as well, but everything else was a bit disappointing.

First time at this restaurant and have to say I would definitely come back. Had seats at the bar and had the pleasure of having Anthony, the main bartender, greeting and helping with the menu choices. Super nice and friendly guy who made sure I never missed anything even while he was constantly busy making cocktails, great service overall from all the staff. Tried a bunch of different things off the menu including the steamed broccoli, vegetable dumplings, dynamite raw fish bowl, fried chicken, fish rolls and shredded beef bowl. All were delicious except for the fish roll. I don’t recommend those. Also had the chocolate brownie which was absolutely amazing ? The decor is very authentic and quaint, perfect background music but never too loud. I am not a fan of Tapas style restaurants with tiny portions and stupid prices , but the folks at Hanzo IZAKAYA offer really nice variety of Japanese style pub foods for a good value. It’s no wonder the place was full.

All foods from starts to main dishes are heavily seasoned. There are not many food options tho that's normal for a izakaya. The yuzu honey cocktail is the only cocktail we like. However If you need us to leave because you have other people waiting for the table, you should've told us before we ordered our second round of drinks. It's very inappropriate to ask us to leave in 10 minutes after we just ordered another round.

Hanzo's first visit. Not great food, small portions, but quite expensive. Fish served half frozen. I could have bought the same gyozas at the Asian supermarket. The breading of the chicken soggy and crispier, in short...The service wasn't great either, you had to hail the waiters all the time. The machine that offers a minimum of 18% tip is irritating. Better Izakaya alternatives exist in Montreal. The place is well decorated but it smelled of funny smells at times. We went elsewhere to finish our meal.

Highly, highly & highly recommend this place to anybody visiting the city or if you live in Montreal & are looking for a new place.I quite literally only found out about it because I was taking photos of it outside, walked in view the menu but was told they wouldn’t be serving anymore which actually was fine with me as I just ate else where. I was told by & sorry I’m horrible with names but she was Scottish, she said they weren’t serving anymore. Came back the next day and loved the food.Really couldn’t ask for a better Japanese restaurant in the literal heart of Montreal.

We took the 5-6 course meal that consisted of entrees and it was average quality. Some items were a little tastier, but some tasted like nothing. We had to keep asking for water, service was poor, and it’s not like we had a ton of water, just a normal amount.Wouldn’t go back.
