If you are looking for a larger Indian restaurant with a hostess, fancy decor, and some scheduled belly dancing for entertainment, this is not it. If you are seeking really well prepared, authentic Indian food, in a cozy neighborhood spot, then this is the place you seek.I've seen this place when it first opened. I remember making a mental note to go in then just kept forgetting about it. Well, seeing that it still exists about 3 years later, I was convinced there is something special about it so this time, I headed in.Chennai Express is hands down, the best Indian restaurant in RI. Step into the small spot for ordering to-go or dining in, and your nose will be treated to the fragrant, mouthwatering aroma of dishes being prepared in the kitchen. I walked in and sat down on an empty table to peruse the menu for a to-go order. It was a challenge picking which dish to order as the menu presented a host of delicious options--from the more popular Indian dishes, to very authentic sounding appetizers and entrees. I wanted them all. Ultimately, I decided on Shrimp Biryani, Butter Chicken, and Nellore Fish Curry. These did not disappoint at all. The rice and chicken were not dry and the sauce were so flavorful.While waiting for my order, I have witnessed how busy Chennai is for take out. There's a quick cycle of pick up orders on the counter. A small group sat occupied two of the four 4-seater tables. I cannot help but look at their orders, taking note of the dishes for my next visit (yes, I was already planning coming back even before getting my order).Tip: Bring some cash so you avoid paying a surcharge. They take Venmo, too.I get home and excitedly open my package...mmm...worth the wait. Chennai Express is the real deal.

Chennai Express has excellent Indian food including dosas which is just great. It isn't really a dine in with a date you want to impress place (small), but the food more than makes up for this. It is definitely an order and pick up kind of place. Their raita could be better, but is in no way bad. Netflix and Chennai ftw. Their chicken tikka masala is some of the best Ive ever had, and their curries and biriyani are also superb.
placed an order thru door dash, called to make some changes and they were very nice about it and took my request into consideration.the food was the best indian food i’ve had. lots of flavor and the chicken was actually tender! tried something new, masala dosa was different and very delish i would consider it an appetizer personally. in my opinion for the price the portions are great. will be my new go to spot!

Simply my favorite Indian food spot in the state, and that is saying a lot as we have many great options. I love the quality as well as the variety that Chennai has to offer. If I am in the mood for South Indian food, the dosas never disappoint. You'll be happy with anything you order here!

So, I wouldn't say this is the best Indian place I have been too . But, it's up there in quality and Service.. I have ordered multiple times in the last week and will make this a weekly stop for eating..
Super tasty food, great services; love to go again. Veghakka Noodles, Butter Naan, Chickentikka Masala,Samosa, Mango lassi was simply the best . ? Highly recommended to everyone surely you will not be disappointed.

Love the food here. Everything I've ordered from here has been superb. The chicken tikka masala, palak chicken, butter chicken are all amazing here. However, my favorite dish of all is no longer on the menu. I frequently ordered the tandoori chicken wings but I noticed that it's no longer on the menu as a separate dish. Please add this back to the menu if possible, it's a highlight. Overall though, great food!
