Stopped by for some cold brew coffee. Was expensive for what you get. Woman at the counter was nice although quick interaction. Main complaint was coffee was cloudy and had a gritty texture which greatly affected the flavor. Made this a lot more bitter which is worse given the price point. Their website is not the greatest with menus. Baked goods were expensive too. I see they moved but the signage in the front where they share an entrance with a few other locations is not super clear. Their main corner door is there, however as tourists we missed it. Inside it actually looked nice and cozy. Was pretty disappointed with the coffee overall.

The best coffee in Newport! And Alyssa is the nicest owner/operator. We are definitely going back.

I wouldn't have had an issue with the overpriced coffee and food if it wasn't for my latte tasting watered down and my food dry as hell. The pastry was almost stale. Extremely overpriced for the quality. Also, the owner will make your coffee and heat up your pastry before you pay so there's no way for you to refuse it once seeing the price (which aren't listed anywhere until you pay and then she blames it on the 8% tax which wouldn't make that much of a difference). Over $8 for a small pastry and $9 for a latte

We stumbled in here earlier today just looking for a quick caffeine fix and it didn’t disappoint. The smores lattes were delicious and my daughter declared the home made cinnamon roll the best she’s ever had, and she’s a tough critic. The owner was amazing and we chatted with her the whole time we were there, felt like we’d known her forever. We’ll be making this a regular stop for us when we’re in town.

We were visiting Newport for a short getaway, wandering near the waterfront. It was chilly out, so we wanted a warm drink and a snack. We happened upon Alyssa's place, and were so happy we found it!We're self-confessed "coffee snobs", and this was GOOD coffee! She took the time to ask us exactly how we wanted our cappuccinos, and we chatted for a while as we ate our pastries.Great atmosphere, delicious coffee, warm and friendly owner. Definitely stop in for a great coffee and true hospitality!

I feel bad writing this, but I really didn’t appreciate the experience we had. The drinks were terrible. The larges were normal medium cups and I paid $26 dollars for 2 lattes. Definitely won’t be back.

Have never left a google review before. But have to for Alyssa! Was just in Newport for the first time visiting yesterday and had the pleasure of speaking with her some time. Such an amazing and polite human that clearly cares about getting to know her customers and also clearly is passionate about her coffee shop. It was awesome getting to know you, thanks for spreading kindness and great coffee! Next time I'm in Newport I'll be back!

Unfortunately, the other reviews represent exactly our experience. You will be charged different prices than what’s on the board (which are already higher than other great coffee shops in walking distance) while the owner distracts you with small talk. The coffee was also average or even below average. Other nearby coffee shops or even Starbucks will provide a better drink at a lower price with a nicer atmosphere.

I love this place! We were visiting Newport and needed a nice place to warm up since it was a rainy fall day. The strudel was so good - felt like a hug. The spiced chais were nice and warm and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The owner runs the business, and she is a delight! The moment you order, you feel like a regular. Highly recommend!

Highway robbery. A small latte and a slice of cranberry loaf was nearly $18. There were no prices on the pastry items. The owner tries to chat with you to distract you from the price you're paying. We got the same items around the corner the next day for $11.

Save your money, We purchased a scone, slice of blueberry bread and a medium hot chocolate, and medium OJ, bill came to $32.50! Hot Chocolate was watery and she asked if I wanted whip cream not knowing it was $1.00 extra!! The scone was good but not $9 worth. Take your money elsewhere and enjoy a sit down breakfast.

When my mom and I first walked into the coffee grinder, the owner was on us like white on rice. Very friendly, almost too friendly but I didn't think much of it as she was the owner and sole employee in the moment. She would not stop talking. Once I saw my mom's receipt of a total of 84.00 for 3 pastries, and 4 coffees (three of which were hot, no flavor with whole milk and sugar) I realized the friendliness was a distraction. I was disgusted. The prices did not match what was on the board, and the large sized coffees could be finished in three gulps. The coffee itself was nothing special - you could spend 3 dollars at WaWa and get a similar flavor and better size. The one latte we got was half foam and was filled three quarters of the way. Skip burnt coffee and dry pastries and get a nice lunch instead!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Coffee Grinder, a quaint little coffee shop tucked away in the historic Perry Mill, now part of the Newport Bay Club & Hotel. The building itself, dating back to 1835, adds an extra layer of charm to the whole experience. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee that instantly makes you feel at home. The interior is cozy and inviting, perfectly complementing the historic ambiance of the building. But what truly stole the show for me was their Vanilla Chai Latte. It was nothing short of amazing—perfectly balanced flavors, not too sweet, and just the right amount of spice. It was the kind of drink that warms your soul, especially on a chilly Newport day.The location is another highlight. Situated so close to the wharf, it's the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee while taking in the scenic views of the harbor. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Coffee Grinder offers a unique blend of history, comfort, and exceptional beverages.Highly recommend for anyone looking to experience the best of what Newport has to offer in terms of coffee and atmosphere!
