Easily the best Mexican food in Providence. The pozole is insanely addictive. Their seafood soup will have you wondering how they’re making a profit with that much protein! Can’t go wrong with any of the tacos. Very affordable too. Long lines were typical pre-pandemic and, when it was crowded before social distancing, the restaurant can be kind of noisy.

By far my favorite mole. I miss El Rancho more than any other place. The food, the service, the margaritas... I'm there as soon as they reopen!

The ambiance and service were excellent. I’m sure the food and drinks are authentic and the best quality, but... I recommend newcomers ask a lot of questions about flavors, bitter/sweet, spicy-ness, etc ahead of ordering drinks and food, especially if you like ‘regular’ Mexican food. They are Very different from their other restaurant: El Rancho Grande. I blindly ordered a drink I didn’t like. They kindly let me pick another one, I also couldn’t drink it. They kindly took them both off the bill, though I wasn’t complaining. Just not my taste. I paid for the 2 drinks with extra tip $. I liked the beef tongue but did not enjoy the dried shrimp fritters: the sauce was spiced in a way that blocks me from tasting anything. So be prepared for high quality, great ambiance, and great service, but you will be happier if you ask lots of questions before you order anything.

I love their food. Even the staff was always great. We visited a couple weeks ago after they opened their other location and there were two young ladies and they didn't seem very happy, they were not very nice to us, but we stayed because after all the food is great.

Can I just say... Wow! El Rancho Grande has completely blown me away. If I could give 6 stars, I would! I came on a Sunday night around dinnertime (6:30-7:00 PM), and there were about 7 other parties inside but still enough room to be seated right away. There were three stalls of street parking right outside of the restaurant, so that was pretty convenient. Glasses of water as well as chips and salsa were immediately set down on the table -- a good sign. I had studied the Yelp photos from front to back before visiting, so I knew that I was going to get the carne asada for my entree. I also ended up trying one of their margaritas. Surprisingly, the flavors that they have are all tropical in nature -- mango, passionfruit, and another fruit that I can't remember. I went with the mango margarita which didn't really taste all that much like mango but grew on me as the night went on. We ordered some guacamole to go with the chips. I thought it would be a little more complex, but it was relatively basic (there were no onions, tomatoes, or other add-ins). Still, it was tasty in the simplest of ways. My carne asada came with a heaping scoop of rice, a large dish of refried pinto beans, and three tortillas. When I said "wow," I really meant it. Each aspect to my dish was absolutely delicious -- no complaints! The carne asada was incredibly tender and some of the most flavorful meat I've had in a while. Everything went together perfectly. The prices are a bit steeper than some other Mexican restaurants in Providence, but I think that it's well worth the price since the portions are so large. Although it might be further outside of the center of Providence than one might normally venture, El Rancho Grande is worth a visit... trust me!

I can't believe I've never written a review for ERG before. This is absurd because a - I am completely smitten with this restaurant. B - it is, hands down, the best Mexican food in Rhode Island, and some of the best I've had anywhere. (Caveats: I lived in a heavily Mexican 'hood for 3 of my five years in Chicago. I know from Mexican.) Pros: any of their food. Seriously - order from the Maria Specials section, and you will have the most awesome Mexican you've never known you could try (if you're a New England gringa, for example.) The barbacoa is outstanding. The cochinita pibil is so flavorful it's insane. Cons: none. Maria will ply you with tequila shots if you're a regular. And you will be after you try the posole. Some times, the service can be a bit chaotic, but you won't care. The food is too good.

The wait might be long, but it is SO worth the wait! Food is excellent! Service is great! Margaritas are fabulous!!! The best authentic food I have ever had! Go before you're hungry and you will be full when you leave!!!

Chef Maria's place is the best Mexican restaurant in Rhode Island, bar none. Wonderful Oaxacan cuisine, in an intimate setting.
