Maybe I went on an off day. I heard good things about this restaurant and decided to try it out. I ordered the pork chop meal and got redrice, Mac and cheese and hush puppies as my sides. The pork chops were good just a little thin. The sides weren't enjoyable at all. The atmosphere wasn't very inviting either

I have been wanting to eat here ever since I saw a clip from the restaurant on one of the food channels. I was definitely not disappointed. We had to wait to be seated, but not long. The wait for our food was longer than some other restaurants, but so worth the wait. Our table had an order of the Soul Rolls, hushpuppies, grilled catfish with slaw and collards, she crab soup, the jambalaya, and the Catfish Charleston. My friend got an order of the banana pudding to go. Everything was delicious. Highly recommend!Parking: A few places in front, with more in the back
As a first-time visitor to Gillie's, I am hoping to get back again!

Don't be in a rush when you get here! Food was superb but nothing came quickly. We had time so it was no bother. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out so I can tell that business is brisk which is good! We would definitely come again.

Visiting the Charleston area for the week and wanted some local seafood that wasn't a tourist haven. Randomly selected this local fare and was pleasantly surprised. Food was absolutely wonderful as was the friendliness of the establishment. Will definitely go again next time we're in the area.

I so hate to post this review. We understand Gillie’s is a small, locally-owned business that we were eager to support.I have a large family, and it was the Saturday before Easter. We knew no restaurant on Folly would be able to accommodate us right away. We’re not idiots. We expected and were happy to wait. The attention while we were waiting at Gillies was wonderful. The manager on site gave us constant updates and even offered to “bring out snacks for my niece and nephew” while we waited.Once we got seated it was an entirely different story. After waiting outside an hour (no big deal) we were seated at 8:05. Our food came over an hour later. No hyperbole; literally came at 9:15. Here’s where it gets odd: it was all lukewarm. Like it had been ready for longer and someone had just let it sit there.We received no silverware with our food, so the kind server (she was doing her best) brought us… forks. No knives. So we asked for knives and condiments. I don’t know what seafood restaurant doesn’t just automatically bring you cocktail or tartar sauce with your meal, but hey.She then brought us cocktail sauce- two tiny containers that were half full. Approximately one ounce each. For eight people… That all ordered… fried seafood… at a southern seafood restaurant….She brought us more after we asked. But this was after the wait, and the silverware, and the weird cold food that took forever to bring out. The manager never offered an explanation. It was all just not acceptable.We’re not Karen’s. But our family got the house on Folly because we are going through a tough time and needed to be together. By the time we all returned home from Gillies, our spirits were low. Fun was totally killed. We had one night together and were depending on Gillies to give us the experience the marketing materials for the restaurant seem to promise. It failed completely.
