Finally, an authentic West Texas [El Paso] Mexican restaurant in Charleston, SC. The food was delicious with layers of seasoning and flavors. Authentic Hatch Chilis!! Everything was wonderful. Not your Daddy's Mexican restaurant.Update 4.16.2024: unfortunately the food quality has decreased since Patty left Rancho Lewis. Our last few visits have seen a significant slip in food quality - stale tortillas, room temp food, un-melted cheese in Chilis Rellenos, .... the food just misses the mark. Some items are still excellent, but there are disappointments also in execution.

Beef ribs and queso dip were very good! However I was in the mood for a beer they did not have on top so I walked over Edmond oast to grab a pint and come back to my dinner with my wife. The manager gently reminded me I was not allowed to drink another companies product for some red tape reasons in the common area. Of course I try to hurry up and drink my beer fast now I get to come back to a cold meal and a pissed off wife. What an interesting decision for a manager to make when we already had purchased drinks from their restaurant.

I've eaten here probably 20 times and when it's good it's really good, unfortunately it's been consistently inconsistent lately. Today I went for an early dinner with my husband and I ordered the shrimp tacos which I often order. When I received them I could tell by the look of things they were off...the shrimp were butterflied into tiny halves, almost as if they were trying to skimp on ingredients. Other than that they were missing the key ingredients of the corn/pineapple salsa and the usually delicious sauce tasted more like a sour tartar sauce. When I mentioned this to our waiter he was kind enough to offer something else for my meal and the managers did come out and apologize. While this was nice and appreciated, it was unfortunate that I had to eat after my husband had already had almost 50% of his meal and more so the fact the kitchen let this meal leave the kitchen. I've posted a picture of my meal today and a recent picture from a reel of a local food blogger who also ordered the shrimp tacos...the difference is extremely noticeable. Outside of this experience we've notice the quality and taste of drinks is very inconsistent despite having an automatic shaker system for their margaritas. We've also noticed the time of day can dictate the quality of meat you get in fajitas. One of our favorite dishes is also the wedge salad but this has also been inconsistent ranging from toppings missing, amount/size of lettuce, quality of ingredients and dressing, etc. This place is amazing when it's good but very subpar when it's a miss. I think we're going to need to take a pause after our most recent experiences, hopefully they can work out the kinks.

When I was but a young nino, my parents sent me to Quetzaltenango, Guatemala as part of a one-way foreign exchange program. For a year, I worked as a de-sucker on a banana farm making 2 quetzales a week. I could only afford to eat tortillas and tarantulas, but man were the tortillas something to remember! After a long day in the field, I'd come back to my choza and eat as many tortillas as I could get my little manos on. The village folks called me "el chanchito descuidado," which they told me is a phrase they use when someone is both endlessly hungry and smart. Well the whole reason I share these background details is because I've never encountered such buenas tortillas anywhere in South Carolina until I found Rancho Lewis. Just like Lupe and Alvin did it on the farm in Quetzaltenango, these babies are made by hand. And they're incredible. They're light, airy and come with an exquisite chew. And they hold up. The elastic modulus on these tortillas is high, and they've got the yield strength to sustain my passionate but impatient meat swaddling. The chicken is good too. I highly recommend the fajitas and the tacos, and the Christmas burrito and the enchiladas and the pozole, and the sopapillas, and the red salsa. But mostly the tortillas.

Beef Ribs were great. I shared them with a coworker and ordered an additional potato. The tequila martini was excellent. Not very spicy but delicious. The Salsa bar and guacamole were a fun appetizer as well. Wonderful experience and the staff were helpful and lively.

I'll make this clear... this is not Mexican, it is Tex mex, but really good Tex mex at that! Don't expect authentic Mexican food, but do expect great food in a really cool restaurant.

We visited for dinner in a Thursday night. They were much busier than usual and there was a 45 minute wait inside. They seated us outside immediately. It was cool- 61 with a breeze. They turned on the gas heaters and it was nice and cozy. We had three different types of salsa and guacamole. They kept bringing us chips! Four bowls! The food came out quickly. We got chicken fajitas and beef enchiladas. The kids got chicken fingers and fries. They both said they didn't like them and I'm not sure why. I tried them and thought they were good. The service was very good despite how busy they were. The manager was helping out and that was good to see. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves. The outdoor area was right next to the Oast Brewing beer garden. It felt like one big bet garden. I recommend!

We just stumbled upon this place, literally, heading for the Sushi bar in town. Stopped in to check it out. Since we are from Texas and authentic Mexican food is abundant, we were skeptical. It was good!

This has become our favorite Mexican restaurant in South Carolina. Everytime we are in Charleston we have to visit. The verde salsa is out of this world and the fresh corn tortilla chips are outstanding. Locally sourced ingredients truly stand out.

This place has outstanding Mexican food. The service was impeccable. Salsa bar and flour tortillas are made fresh daily. The cheese dip with tortilla mouth watering. We came for lunch, and everyone was so happy eating the food. Beautiful and open. You can sit inside or outside. Just look at the food pictures. The dessert orange flan was my favorite. I am still thinking about it. The sopas with cinnamon and sugar, then drizzled warm honey was chef kiss ?A huge must try.
