Ordered takeout for a larger group when friends were visiting. We loved all our meals - from enchiladas, to quesadilla to barbacoa a plate. Pickup was easy and order was accurate. Excited to eat in person here soon!

This is our second visit to the new location. Both times have been disappointing. The quality of the food has slipped, and the full service has resulted in slower, indifferent service. I’m not alone in this assessment as noted by the lack of customers on a Saturday night. And when the check came, there was a charge to use a credit card, even though I was going to pay in cash. Supposedly that would have been taken off if I had paid in cash, but this wasn’t offered up when the check was presented. I figured screw it, I’ll pay with a card. My opinion is they’re in way over their head with this larger restaurant. Their overhead has gone way up, their business volume has gone down, and the result is that the food quality and service have declined dramatically. It’s really a shame since this was once our favorite restaurant for great food, great drinks, and great service.

Great Mexican food with a Southwestern influence! The servers and staff are very friendly and efficient and aim to please with attentive service. When I ordered the Mexican Corn Half Cob with no queso fresco the chef came by our table to confirm and ask if we had any food allergies. Very considerate! I ordered the Ensalada de Casa- as I always do- and it never disappoints. The mixed greens, tomato wedges roasted corn kernels, avocado, pickled red onions and crispy tortilla strips are a perfect combination and enough of a meal for me ~ and comes complete with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing that is just spicy enough and perfectly complements the salad. Your choice of protein can be added. We also ordered the Chicken Quesadilas and they were crispy and delicious. Add the caramelized onions and complete it with a serving of guacamole! Don't forget National Margarita Day on February 22! There is a private party room located in the back of the restaurant and is a sizable event space for up to 30 guests. Zia also does Catering. A full bar with seating and high top tables are available as an option to the dining room. The environment is colorful and decorated with artifacts and artwork on the walls that are actually for sale. The website for Zia shows photos of the actual dishes that are offered which is nice. Most Mexican favorites are on the menu. The salsa and chips are complimentary at the table and the salsa is one of the best around! Our server Nathan gets a high five for 5 star service!

We had impromptu dinner since I was craving for Mexican food and find this place on google map.Zia Taqueria was not busy on Sunday night and we kinda enjoy that.I had their burrito special with spicy carnitas, sliced jalapeños, black beans and rice and crema sauce. It was so good!My husband had spicy fish sandwich and the seasoning on the fish was so good. Although, he think the fish will taste better on the taco instead of buns.Overall, the food is good and also the drinks! Our waiter, Ella, was nice and attentive. We'll be back!

Excellent tacos! This is the one taco place we eat in Charleston that has my husband’s approval. The tacos taste like what he’s used to in the Southwest. So delicious!

Such a let down! Service was terrible but I do get it is hard being a waitress however the restaurant was empty and we still had a long wait for everything. The “nachos” should not be advertise as nachos, they’re tostadas with whatever meat you want and cheese on top. My husband hated the “nachos” so much. I loved my taco and the chicken Yucatán was nicely flavored but overall the whole experience was a let down. I’m sad to say I will never be going to that restaurant again which is a bummer since I think it has potential with the tacos they have.

Long time fan, food is good, 3* on this trip as my takeout didn't have my tortillas for my pollo verde platter. I noticed on the ticket attached to my bag that this item was the only one not checked. Will still come back and double check my order before leaving. Definitely recommend still and a solid 4.1 out of 5 on average for what is to be eaten on James island in the way of Tex mex

I'd give 6 stars if I could. The staff here are so nice. We were a party of 4. All ordered different dishes. The high point we're there nachos. So much better than the typical pile of chips with all the toppings on the surface. These Tacos are crazy good. Not too hot but tons of flavor. I added my own heat. I loved them!!! The only down was pretty small, their Tortilla Soup contained Chili Powder. I wouldn't do that. The spice overpowered this great soup.

If you like very bland pre-prepared Mexican food..this is your place. Cheese dip taste like Velveeta cheese, the dressings and sides all looked and tasted like they came out a can. The portion sizes were tiny. I'm reading people come for tacos and tequila so I suppose stick with that cause the other stuff was sad. Im sad we spent over 50 dollars on a canned heated up meal... don't waste your time and money here, head to Santi's downtown. (Service was a plus however).

Rude/dishonest hostess....tells me my food is being bagged....for 10 mins? Granted, I was early. So rather than mislead/lie, why not try being truthful? Sorry, you are early...food should be out in a few minutes. But then again, manager told me the same when he had the opportunity to be honest. Business policy to mislead? Dont know!! Maybe it's me, but being dishonest on any level is not a good look for ANY business...Food? Definitely not as good as it used to be....soggy taco, nasty sauce on enchilada....liked it much better in terrace plaza...

We LOVE what Love is doing here!I’ve been to Zia twice. Both times pleasantly surprised! As a Mexican with high standards for authentic Mexican food, I especially loved the borracho beans and authentic chips and salsa!Today Sarah went out of her way to make me a raspberry flavored Margarita that was delicious! And after telling Love that we had just left another Mexican restaurant after being disappointed with that restaurant’s salsa, which tasted like canned tomato sauce and told her we couldn’t end my birthday on that note, she surprised us with a slice of tres leches cake! What awesome customer service!Top end food and even better service. We will be back ❤️

Pretty decent food! I did a pickup order I definitely appreciate the authenticity but I wish more onion and garlic were included in the tacos to increase the flavor.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Zia Taqueria yesterday afternoon for a late lunch. The menu was varied and the staff was attentive but not intrusive. More importantly, our server was informed. I was immediately advised of what was not available due to supply chain shortage but it certainly was not a game changer. We started with some chips and salsa, along with some cheese Queso both of which were exceptional. Afterwards, I had the carnitas quesadilla with a side of corn, which I would classify as very good, especially with the jalapeño relish (house made). My wife chose carne asada quesadilla with black beans. Again; very good. I may have been expecting more flavor intensity in the main courses than the Chef was planning for, but each has his/her own interpretation so I'm not docking it. The Tres Leche' cake for dessert was just the right level of sweet and the portion was HUGE! Not exaggerating to say it was a 6" x 6" square that barely fit in its container. I've made it a habit these days to bring my own carry-out containers to avoid additional fees and waste, and wasn't surprised to see the .59 cent charge for the cake container and bag. I was surprised at the $2.21 fee for using my debit card to pay. I've been aware that some businesses are adding the fee back in to keep from having to inflate menu prices due to increased food costs, etc, but this is the first I have experienced it. My surprise was that it was not visible to me on the menu, and I was not asked about it or I would have settled in cash. All things considered, it was a nice meal and I'm very likely to be back. (Sorry, no pics this time, but their Yelp listing has plenty!)
