How to review a restaurant like this. It's tricky. First of all, I'm a tourist from out of town and had no prior knowledge of what appears to a be a pretty notorious and distasteful history surrounding the behavior of its prior owner who was an outspoken segregationist. He's since died and his children have taken over the restaurant and have made some effort to overcome and move past the racist history. I'll be honest, I never would've eaten here had I known. It seems almost like a political statement to do so since there's been a boycott of this place for decades. Having said all of that, the food was absolutely delicious and I'd be dishonest if I rated it too low based on the other stuff. 5 stars for South Carolina mustard bbq as good as I've ever had it (I'm not an expert, tho). 0 stars for the awful racist past. I'll split the difference at 3 stars. The food is good. The history is not. Decide for yourself whether to come here but, unlike me, you can't say you didn't know what you were doing after you read this

The worst stop I could have made $50 later. Out of towner see bbq placed completely excited in town for national track meet purposely didn’t eat all day waiting to be a glutton for bbq afterwards ordered a $24.99 5 bone rib plate the ribs were literally finger sized???? Wt$ really never again maybe locals used to this but to be fair it was good portions size for price absolutely ridiculous they should be ashamed
Gross. Staff was smoking by front door. Has to wait for them to finish smoking to be greeted and order. Portions were WAY too small for the expensive price. Will not be back which is a shame since it used to be a great place and has a great BBQ name.

We ordered a LOT of food for Easter lunch. It was ready on time (pick up) and the staff was so sweet and helpful. The food was DELICIOUS and still hot. 10/10 would order food for an event here again. We will definitely be back to eat. Thank you Maurice’s!

Had an awesome time here with very friendly top-notch service and killer BBQ. Seriously, the food is next level! you gotta try the pulled chicken, wings, brisket, coleslaw, and these amazing things called hush puppies. Never seen them but omg they were anmazing! All insanely good. The ending was sweet potato casserole and WOAHHHBest BBQ I’ve ever had, hands down.
I ordered macaroni...2 pints, to be exact. Once, I arrived at the window, I requested a sweet tea... the server was hesitant, but she allowed me to order. There was literally no one in the line besides ME!! I asked to add a 3rd pint, and she informed me they are not allowed to do add ons at the window and she wasn't supposed to add the sweet tea, but she did to be courteous! She literally had me drive around to the speaker to order another pint of macaroni!!! With no one in the line!!!!! I couldn't believe it but it gave me a good laugh for the day!! I won't go back to this location! The sweet tea is disgusting, by the way! I gave 3 stars because I love the macaroni, but they can keep all of the unnecessary dramatics! I see why I was the only person in the line Parking: About 20 parking spots.

I got the brisket plate. I ordered potato salad and Mac n cheese as sides and it came with 2 hushpuppies and a small dinner roll. I also ordered a small side of baked beans and 5 extra hushpuppies. I paid $26 (oh I got a soda too) Ok first thoughts.... I am shocked and disappointed in the amount of brisket for the price. But the brisket was delicious. I enjoyed the red sauce. A little sweet but not too thick. The beans were good but very small. The Mac n cheese was pretty good but also very small and super salty. I wish I had tried the cole slaw because the potato salad was dry and too salty yet somehow bland. I added some BBQ sauce to it. The hushpuppies were good. The customer service was good. Girl that helped me at the drive thru was friendly. I am not sure that I would return because of the price and hit or miss sides. I would say all the food (except the potato salad) was ok, may be some one else's cup of tea.

Amazing service and food was great. I was in town visiting family in Columbia for the new year. This is the first time I ever had bbq this way. The cashier was very knowledgeable of menu and the food was prepared with care. The workers seemed so friendly and happy. When we are back in Columbia this will definitely be my first stop to eat. We ate too fast to take a picture of the bbq. Next time.
