Best bbq and sides around!

The Big E BBQ plate offers a generous amount of smoky, juicy pork, a soft bun, fresh and well-drained hand-cut fries, sweet and crunchy coleslaw and a canned soda or bottled water, all for $10. The fries are incredibly fresh. The pork is stellar, just what I like, with a side of sweet barbecue sauce for pouring or dipping. There's enough pork for two sandwiches OR for one sandwich and some extra on the side, just the way I like! Sandwiches are also available for $6 and fries for $3. Big E isn't always available at this site on a regular schedule at this point, but you should get a taste when it's there. Big E also offers catering as well as ribs on occasion by pre-order for $25. In a town with no brick-and-mortar BBQ restaurant, Big E is much needed. Friendly and fast service, too. I was told I'd have to wait a bit for fresh fries. Less than 5 minutes later I was back in the car with my food. Cards accepted. Lot available for parking near a Mountain Rest Cemetery entrance. Follow Big E on Facebook for info on when barbecue will be available!

We never got to try it under previous management so we thought we'd give it a go this time. Nice, fresh coat of white paint on the exterior made things look much more updated than previously. Convenient patio area and outdoor seating. When we walked in, there were 4-6 people standing around the counter, all employees. No one asked if they could take our order, directed us to a seat or told us how things worked. After a couple minutes, we just started waking towards a table. When we got there, a waitress approached us and let us know we had to order up front. So, we went back. The menu was on the wall, but an employee told us, "what we actually have is on this menu", and pointed to a paper menu taped to the counter. Several items were crossed out. I chose The Oinker: 2 meats, 2 sides and a drink for $14.99. I selected pulled pork and ribs. A young girl behind the counter informed me that I would have to move up to a pick 3, "The Whole Hog", for $19.99 to have ribs as a selection. That was not indicated on the menu. (See picture below). So I chose The Piglet: 1 meat, 1 side and drink for $9.99. I asked if it would come with a bun or hush puppies or anything other than the side I chose and she said "nope, what for your drink?". The whole vibe from her was unfriendly. She seemed rude or that she hated her job. My husband chose The Oinker and picked chicken tenders, pulled pork, sweet potato casserole, and Mac'n cheese. The total was just over $26. We were handed ice filled, styrofoam cups with straws and two canned drinks before leaving the counter. When the food came to the table, there was a side-sized bowl of pulled pork on my plate and a handful of hush puppies in a paper tray, along with bbq sauce and a piece of loaf bread (courtesy of the sweetest waitress who heard me ask if there would be a bun on my plate and felt bad about the answer). The bbq was room temperature, but had a good flavor, and the ratio of meat to fat was ideal for my liking. The sauce was very good. It had a perfect amount of tangy heat and went wonderfully with the meat. The hush puppies were hot, crunchy and dense; an all-around desirable side. My husband had the same experience with the temperature of the pulled pork, as well as the Mac'n cheese. It was bland, cold, and mediocre, to say the least. The chicken tenders had a great breading; dense, flaky, lightly seasoned, and fried perfectly. The honey mustard that went with the tenders was okay, equivalent to a store bought. And last, and probably least, the sweet potato casserole. It was rather bland as well. However, it was warm and our 8-month old baby girl enjoyed it. Our overall experience was less than average. Our waitress kind and friendly, but the food was mediocre and for $26, there's a plethora of places two folks could get a much better meal in town. I think if they'd get some friendlier employees, implement some structure, amp up there flavor, throw in a bun or puppies as a 'complementary side', and serve the food hot, more folks would return a second time. It's one and done for us.

Enjoyed this little place with my daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Great service. Good choices. I liked their mac and cheese and hush puppies, too.

Have I failed to post a review over the last 5 yrs! I greatly apologize! I have traveled all over this country and although it may be true I've not tried 100's of Bbqs but my passion is Brunswick stew! I have had many many types of Brunswick. THE VERY BEST BRUNSWICK STEW I'VE EVER HAD IS MADE HOMEMADE AT GRANDDADDY'S BBQ !!!!! I WISH IT WAS ALWAYS AVAILABLE AND IF IT WAS SOLD BY THE GALLON THAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE FOR ALL DINNER PARTIES!!!

I am a trucker and first time here. Plenty of parking for big rigs and there are 2 truck stops right next to it. The employees were very friendly and the food was excellent! Everything was very hot and the ribs were great by themselves and nice size. I did add the mustard sauce to it which made it even more delicious but they are wonderful without the sauce as well! Florida Kracker approved!!! I’ll be back!

We were on our way up to Tennessee and decided to stop by this place. The ribs were fabulous. The service was spot on and the place was clean and lively. I would highly recommend this place to anyone that has the taste for good food.

Best BBQ ever! My daughter and I were on our way to Charlotte and saw them right off the interstate. Very convenient and well worth the stop!

Conveniently located off I-85S. Homestyle atmosphere, clean dining area, and offers outdoor dining, but uncovered. Incredibly dry pork BBQ which also lacks flavor unless sauce is added. Sides are good.
