I was so excited when I heard this restaurant was opening back up . Brought back memories of my youth . I have been three times since the reopening . The first time was obviously not planned well . Shortages of several items on the buffet was disappointing. The okra was a big disappointment! As this was obviously a new owner I am understanding of how difficult it must have been to anticipate and try to live up to the past history of such a landmark restaurant. The second time was better . I was so thrilled to see a server from the past . She was always so sweet. I don’t know if she remembered me but I definitely remembered her . She was so attentive to not just our table but all of the other tables as well. I did notice one worker resting a good bit at one of the tables. Or at least I believe she was a worker . Another one was helping a little but definitely looked new to this kind of work so not really as helpful . They could definitely take lessons from the sweet server. The food was only average. Chicken just didn’t seem cooked all of the way. The dressing on the salad bar was not looking good at all. Lord help the okra !!! I work in food service and I notice things that others might not. The third visit was just a total let down. The sweet waitress wasn’t there. Servers were scattered . Tables weren’t being cleared . Drink refills were almost nonexistent. The atmosphere felt off . I have to admit the macaroni and cheese was delicious. As was the banana pudding. I do wonder why though, is there an extra charge for ice cream at a buffet? For the price I would think that it would be included. For the amount of older people who probably only went through the line once the cost should even out . I guess I just had higher expectations of what could have been . I won’t be coming back . I do hope however things eventually come together for the new owner and they get the business that they deserve . And for the love of Pete … you are in the South.. please learn how to cook okra . Hot and crispy!!! Not wet and gummy!!!

SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE!! To be honest, I have never felt compelled to write a review in my life until now, negative OR positive. However, I feel what my family and I have witnessed while dining here on Sundays over the past few months deserves to be known. My wife and I have prayed over this since this past Sunday and still feel guided to share our experience. We have been supporters of Caterans and dined there regularly during lunches and on weekends since around 2000. The original owner always employed the BEST servers who provided top notch service no matter what day or time we came in. After the second owner bought it, that awesome team of ladies started disappearing quickly along with the quality of the food decreasing steadily. We were super excited to start dining there again when we learned about it changing ownership, and their intent to bring it back to the days of the original owners as far as the food went. When we visited the very first time under the new ownership, we were over the moon thrilled to learn one of the original owner's long time staff was back as well! Since their reopening, we have dined there almost every Sunday, half of those times being with a large group from our church. There has been much improvement in the food over the past 3 months, but unless you are someone who goes back multiple times, the price is at least $3 too high per person for what a regular appetite allows one to eat. Even with the too high price, the excellent service we enjoyed made it worth the stop on the way home, especially since we are all "heavy drinkers" and would often ask for the server to bring us helpings of dishes that they were either out of when we came through, or if we didn't want to stand in line again. Even when they were super busy, the server never forgot a single request. One Sunday, back in December, we left over $30 tip on the table and we all noticed the bus boy pick up the tip. We informed both the waitresses as well as the man at the register who told us the bus boy brought all tips to the front for the staff to split. Our entire party had an issue with this procedure, so on future visits, we made it a point to put the tip DIRECTLY into our server's hand! Each time we have made it a point to watch what is happening to all the cash tips left on tables as my wife worked a long time as a server. We have noticed the young gentleman bussing tables as well as a young lady picking up the cash tips and putting them DIRECTLY INTO THEIR PANTS POCKETS on multiple visits over the past month. (Not taking it to the front as I was told was the policy and NOT putting it in her apron like we observe the other main server doing.) This most recent Sunday we arrived shortly after they opened and hung out after eating to enjoy fellowship. When we attempted to hand our server a generous tip, she requested we leave it on the table and when we inquired further as to why, she became visibly uncomfortable, and told us the young man bussing tables would pick it up for her. While the 10 of us in our party sat there finishing our meal, we all noticed 2 young girls helping the young man who was bussing tables pick up tips. The youngest was putting the tips in the container on the cart this time, but the other girl was watching the server who was working for the tips and sliding the cash in her own pants pocket. Multiple times. Every time the main regular server lady had her back turned. After being brushed off by the man at the register on a previous visit, we just decided to leave a much lesser tip instead of voicing our concerns the second time. When we decided to write a review, we were taken aback to learn through another recent review that the owner is already keeping all the credit card tips! I do not know the new owners personally, but regardless of what they pay their workers, taking ANY money customers leave specifically for their servers without signage stating that servers only get to keep cash tips IS indeed stealing from them according to any customer leaving a tip on card! The broccoli casserole was the best I have eaten. It was a treat to have grits with red eye gravy and country ham. We don't see that on the menu many places. We enjoyed our meal! The owners were very kind and service oriented. We will return!

Can't say it was bad, because it wasn't, but it is not what it once was. I got okra - it wasn't warm and it was chewy. I felt the portions were smaller and didn't justify the cost.

We loved this classic, southern all-you-can-eat spot! The atmosphere is exactly what it should be, the fried chicken is amazing, and the casseroles taste like childhood. Be weary of guests reviewing it based on "what once was"... as this is a new version of a previous staple in Greenville. We're buffet chasers in the Upstate and we felt the fried catfish was some of the best we've found on a buffet in the area! I also SO appreciate the banana pudding with real bananas and custard. We're looking forward to going back soon!

As a fan of the original, I was excited to try this newly reopened Greenville landmark. The excitement ended quickly when I found a hair attached to a weave wrapped around my chicken leg. Mistakes happen — I fully understand — however, the situation was handled poorly.I started out with a piece of catfish, then moved on to the fried chicken. After biting into it, I noticed a long black hair with a pink weave tied to it. I informed the waitress and with an attitude, she said it was “just a thread” and walked off with the hair, never to return. It’s hard to gross me out and I’ve had plenty of hairs in my food over the years, but this was disgusting and the attitude was unnecessary. I couldn’t finish the meal and my appetite was ruined.I told the gentleman at the counter about it and he offered to ‘make it right’ by taking $4 off the bill. It was $13 for a small piece of catfish, bite of chicken, glass of sweat tea, and a hair. I won’t ever return. If the reviews improve in a few years and things are sorted out, I might consider it, but as of right now, it’s a 1 star restaurant. I’m all for small family-owned businesses, but the situation was handled terribly. I’ve sat on this review for a few weeks and wanted to give it some time and more thought before posting.I took a picture of the plate as soon as I sat down at the table. I didn’t notice the hair until I bit into the chicken, but you can see it if you look closely. The second photo is the hair on the silverware wrapper.

TIPS !!! THE OWNER DOES NOT GIVE THE TIPS YOU LEAVE ON your CARD TO THE WAITRESS......she keeps them for herself!!!so you leave thinking you left a nice tip and the owner KEEPS IT, disgusting..........TIP IN CASH directly to who was waiting on youIN response .. You are stealing tips that are NOT left for you.. THE tips are left for the girls , ( do you think customers leave tip on the card for the business?) NO WE DO NOT, that is like going to a steak house and tipping the business $10 bucks for example .. NOPE we dont do this... and UNLESS you have a sign at the cashiers stating the business keeps the tips on the card.. YOU ARE STEALING them and misleading customers
