Was so excited to try The Trappe Door in Greenville, South Carolina. We moved to Charlotte from New York City a few years ago and truly missed a real Belgian restaurant so wanted to try it while we were on vacation. The ambience was super cool. Very dark but had amazing touches. It almost felt like we were in Brussels. They had an amazing selection of Belgian beers on draft and bottle. The food was ok. They had many options of Moules Frites- we had the coconut curry. It was a nice sized portion with a lot of broth and bread. We also had the Brussels sprout salad which was delicious- crunchy and had a fantastic dressing. Might have been my favorite thing. The steak tartare was also very good- it was already served on baguette. The baked Brie came with apples and crackers. We also had a play on a French Onion soup which was nothing like a French Onion soup. Not sure why they even call it that. The waitress explained it before we ordered it. That was the saddest part of our experience- the service. As you can tell by my profile, I go out to eat, A LOT. The Trappe Door might have had the worst service I’ve ever experienced- ANYWHERE. All of our food was cold. Our apps might have taken 40-50 mins. They said they make their own ginger beer so I ordered a Moscow Mule (it was great). My bf ordered a Duvel beer. It sat on the bar for 15-20 mins before we were served. We ordered our dinner when she brought the apps and that took another 25 mins. We saw so many drinks just sitting at the bar. I know restaurants are short staffed but our waitress didn’t care at all- I don’t think she apologized once. We still gave her 20% because that’s how we are but the service ruined our last night in Greenville. Was sad too because we were really looking forward to this meal/experience. Hopefully our dinner was just one bad night.

Been going here for years. Knowing the bar is high demand, my date and I arrived there at 5.30, planning to have dinner and drinks. When we got there they told us the bar was full, but we saw there were two adults with two small children sitting at the bar. We thought the manager would ask the family to move to an available table (which there were plenty to choose from) to allow PAYING ADULTS to sit in those seats, but no. Instead we were resorted to the outskirts where we could only be served drinks. Along with "no one planning to move any time soon." I'm incredibly disappointed this is how they operate their bar and handle their guests. Children are NOT allowed at any bar. I don't care of your opinion otherwise.

Our daughter attended Clemson from out of state and we fell in love with Greenville. It is a beautiful city filled with wonderful restaurants. We have never had a bad experience until we decided to celebrate her latest birthday at this restaurant. She remained in Greenville after graduating We have visited many local establishments. I waited two days after our experience to give myself time to give an honest review. We did have reservations on a Thursday evening at 7:30 pm. The restaurant did not seem especially busy. We were greeted by a hostess that seemed confused. Once we were seated our waitress was less than pleasant. We attempted to make our experience positive despite the inattention of our waitress and her obvious annoyance. Luckily another waitress stepping in. The table next to us turned twice and we were still struggling to make the best of the evening. I ask another waitress to please do something for my daughter’s birthday. She stated they could do a small desert with a candle and would pass the info to our waitress. This occasion was also listed on our reservation. After 2.5 hours our waitress handed us the bill. At this time I requestedmy daughter’s step outside and ask to speak to a manager. The manager promptly told me they were busy! The food was good and I do not mind waiting for a good meal. If there are delays communication is the key to good service. Unfortunately the management and staff did not communicate or apologize for the lack of service. Please know this is not an establishment meant for special occasions. I deeply regret choosing it for our youngest daughter’s birthday dinner. My oldest daughter flew in for her sister’s special day and insists we did not receive the service we saw others receive because their father was not with us. The next day we had dinner at a restaurant worthy of Greenville’s reputation to celebrate. It was the first time in six years we have been disappointed in an encounter in this beautiful city. The response of the manager was unacceptable and unapologetic despite my obvious distress over the situation. A kind word and genuine concern would have gone a long way to rectify the situation.

The best mussels anywhere! I had the 'stew' and it was rich and delicious. Their beverage selection does not disappoint. The servers and bar staff are knowledgeable and have great timing.

Very reminiscent of Belgium restaurants and pubs. Excellent beet salad. Meatballs were very good, as was the steak and frites my daughter ordered. Excellent Flemish sour beer on tap.Kid-friendliness: Noticed several families with small children.

The food is good and the atmosphere is typical from a belgium/german tavern BUT:- they were out of draft beers (people are literally coming here for good beers?!)- the smell of sweat/wood/beer can be overwhelming- and our waitress was absolutely TERRIBLE… We waited an 1 hour to get our food, and she never checked on us once during this time. We had to call her back since she clearly forgot us. And when we finally received our food, not a single apology or discount was given to us.Very disappointing, we’ll never be back.

Dinner here was so good. We tried the bitterballen appetizer, and for entrees had steak frites (the fries are really good even without any of the sauces) and braised short ribs. The brussel sprouts are amazing. You absolutely need a reservation. We had one for right when they opened and there was a line of people waiting outside the door.

Typical wooden Belgian tavern, with very good food, a wide variety of beers and wines, good atmosphere, and super attentive service (excellent). As it is a small venue, and as there are many people, there is quite a bit of noise. Highly recommended.

The Trappe Door was absolutely the vibes I was hoping for. The aesthetic was definitely on point. The food was good, but I wasn't blown away. The service was really good for a super busy Saturday night. Our server was named Danielle and she was very friendly and didn't mind explaining the different Belgian beers on the list. MAKE RESERVATIONS a few days ahead of time. I highly doubt you'll be able to eat there on the weekends without one. All and all I was happy with the experience and food.
