My best friend and I go to Wood and Grain at least twice a month. Last night, our experience was unlike any other before. (Bare with me here) We got a bottle of wine, and two of every oyster from the north east (to decide which ones we wanted) along with the Wood fire oysters on the normal menu. When the raw oysters came out, we clarified with the waitress which ones were which. So when she came back, we pointed at the oysters and said we wanted the small petite cup along with the SPECIALTY wood fired oysters. It starts with the same wood fired oysters from before were dropped off. Those were wrong. Then they bring out the raw oysters which are large cups and clearly not the same ones from before. We don’t eat the woodfired ones or the raw ones until we speak to our waitress and she tells us that there’s nothing she can do about it because they’re on the table them when we told her specifically which ones we wanted. She offered us a free salad or pizza. So we said the salad was fine for HER mess up (still annoyed about the oysters). The bartender dropped off the salad and asked us how we were and I told him we were really disappointed with what just happened because it was not our fault she put in the wrong oysters. He asked us how he could fix it and we were like it’s OK. He insisted so he made us two espresso martinis and put in a order for the right specialty wood fire oysters.I have some of the raw oysters because my friend didn’t like them and we were told that we still had to pay for them. Our waitress walks by and says to us in a condescending tone “Well looks like you enjoyed your oysters anyways.” We were so shook that she just said that to us we couldn’t believe it. We still stayed and ordered dessert which is fine. She brings us the check and charged us for the wrong woodfired oysters and the specialty oysters. I asked her about it and she tells us that we have to pay for all of them (even though this was her mistake) or she is going to charge us for the espresso martinis and the salad that were offered to us. We were not rude to her. We were kind to her. We paid it. It is what it is but at the end of the day the hospitality here was absolutely shocking, and we don’t know if we’ll ever be back after last night. Her name was Amanda S and was the shift manager last night. I am a waitress myself and could never imagine treating my customers the way she treated my friend and I.

However, all that being said, still can’t get used to the sticker shock of beverage prices. Four of us consumed 5 glasses of wine, 1 cocktail and 3 sodas. Bill for that: $103. Fifteen dollars a glass for a $30 bottle of rose, $17 a glass for white wine that retails for under $40. $10+ credit card fee. Do I expect a markup? Of course. Having worked for many years in food and bev, I know that drinks are probably now the profit maker in most restaurants, but I wish not quite as much! Will we go there again? Yes, but will probably enjoy cocktails at home before dinner and our meal will be that much more enjoyable!

Oysters = outstandingPizza (special) = very good and I'm from NJ originallyService = abysmalRan into friends outside but sat at the bar. 20 minutes to fill our simple drink order (one wine one beer). The bartender had to intervene to get us our drinks. Not a full house and many wait staff present. I don't get it. Our friends outside indicated similar slow, slow service.

Wood & Grain has amazing food! We've had the burrata appetizer, roasted oysters, and several of the pizzas (all phenomenal). The service has always been friendly. It is nice they don't take reservations so can often walk in for a last minute date night. However, taking off a star because they do charge the credit card fee which is absurd since I'd assume the majority of their clientele pays via credit card and paying via cash only slows down their servers and makes more effort. But alas, as that is the rising trend in the area (though not standard in any other market from talking to friends - DC, New York, Nashville friends have never heard of such a thing at nicer restaurants) I will continue to bring cash around with me and be that person to annoy the wait staff when I pay with cash and tip assuming they remove the credit card fee. I wish restaurants would just own up to their operating expenses and price their menu items accordingly. Price increases are impacting all of us, not just the restaurant industry, so it would be nice to know what I will be charged when ordering and base my decision on eating out on the advertised prices rather than tacking on a hidden fee. Also, I did not see any notification that a fee would be charged prior to receiving the check. Overall, great food, staff, and ambiance, but beware, a sneaky unexpected fee will be added to your bill.

Lobster Roll was very expensive and lobster was chewy. I ordered oysters as an appetizer and they came fifteen minutes after my meal. Very disappointing experience for what I paid. The server offered no compensation
