Great campground with great staff

This campground/cabins are off the beaten path. Honestly, we weren’t sure when we pulled in, but the price was amazing, & if it was horrible we would leave in the morning. We were shocked and excited with how nice the cabins were set up and the bathrooms are nicer and cleaner than some of the chain campgrounds we’ve stayed at!!! The owners/hosts were also very friendly and we cannot recommend this place enough!!! Super stay—just remember to bring your own bedding!

We stayed here with our family for about a week. We just needed a basics campground and My initial impression was very good. On the phone the owner was great, she emailed our site number and campground map so we could arrive late with no issue. I appreciated the forethought but unfortunately that’s where the good ends. Location is ok, a bit out of the way but it’s quiet, and surrounded by hay fields which is nice. I love remote areas but this was more of a “no one can hear you scream” experience instead of the solitude of a rural getaway. When we pulled in it was VERY dark, nowhere to check in after hours, no safety measures at all. Sites are pretty small with a small gravel patch not even big enough to park a suburban on so they just looked awkward and made it weird trying to figure out where they wanted the rig parked on the site. While setting up a kind camper came over and warned us not to let the kids play outside because some people let their aggressive dogs run loose, and some of the people staying there have made them feel very unsafe. The next day, and every day after, I went to the office and camp host site looking to check in but no one was ever there. Almost daily other people’s dogs were let loose to run and came over to p*** on our site. Several of the sites have fences built around them which didn’t bother me but there are just PILES and PILES of stuff around and it gives it a really trashy feel. The day before we left the camp host, who was nice enough, finally came over to our site. The only spots with full hookups are right up against the main road which was unfortunate but the road isn’t very busy so it’s not a huge problem. The dumpster for trash is very far away from the full hookup sites, the water smells terrible and left a film on everything it touched. Overall I felt very uneasy, uncomfortable having to the kids there, and dirty from the smelly water. We were glad when it was time to move on! It’s unfortunate that the owner was gone during our time there because she did seem very on top of things when we spoke. Hopefully this place is better during peak season but we won’t be back and can’t recommend anyone stay here based on our experience.

Very reasonable. The owner is the best!

Visited during Sturgis 2017, Hosts/ownership was so kind, they had just acquired the place so they didn't have DJs or bands lined up, the hosts played trivia games with the crowd all night, kept us entertained, gave us prizes and free drinks for playing. Will definitely be back.

We went to the Barrelhouse to attend my wife's cousins wedding in June. The location was nice enough however the owners had nothing ready the day before the wedding and the site was a complete mess. So my wife's family had to spend the day mowing cleaning the site and getting it ready for the next day instead of being able to spend time with the rest of family who lives 5 hrs away. I would not recommend this location to another couple the owners obviously don't know how to run a professional businesses.
