The room was very clean and every employee was friendly and helpful. Thank you for a wonderful stay. I really enjoyed looking at the historical atmosphere of the hotel. The Billiards room was an added plus and a great place to get an afternoon cocktail and to relax.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Read House. We recommend staying in the historic tower and arranging a tour with the front desk of Room 311. We were there on a Friday night and walked to a festival called Nightfall just down the street. Lots of fun !!!

This place was amazing. Top notch all the way. We have stayed in many hotels, but The Read House is by far the best. The furnishings and decor definitely take you back in time. The staff was very courteous and attentive to our needs. Check in and out was easy. They have a haunted room (room 311) that is a must see. John the doorman was our tour guide for the room, and he was phenomenal. He is definitely the best storyteller. He kept me wanting more. We will definitely be back.

We couldn't have enjoyed our stay at the Read House any more than we did. I had booked the stay through Priceline but due to schedule changes at work was not able to go on the dates I had originally planned. Priceline was not willing to help fix the problem and move the dates. However, The Read House's Customer Service Manager stepped up and helped save the day. She spoke with Priceline and moved the dates at no additional cost to us. Once at the Hotel, it was like going back in time to when the customer was king. The staff attended to all our needs and the hotel itself was very beautiful and like being in a "Roaring Nineties" movie. The bellmen wore period uniforms and the hotel looked the part. Even Leonardo DiCaprio would have approved. If you are planning a trip to Chattanooga, a stay at the Read House will not disappoint.

Hotel is accessible to 24 and near TN Aquarium. Hotel has an old school vibe both on the exterior and interior. My actual room was spacious and bathroom in particular the shower had space for 3. Staff was hospitable. Parking was limited and you have to valet.

I was tremendously disappointed with the hotel’s response to the lack of hot water available in my room. Yes, the hotel is old and it takes some time for water to move through old pipes. The desk suggested sending someone to turn on a number of taps in the rooms surrounding line to encourage hot water flow. That amount of water waste is unacceptable.

Valet parking is mandatory. Unfortunately their parking attendant, who was wearing Read Hotel uniform, damaged my car. They admitted responsibility, gave me papers to fill out, a claim number and a letter that was signed admitting responsibility. They assured me they would take care of the repair cost in a few weeks. We made numerous attempts by phone and e-mail OVER THE PAST YEAR to contact them, but were GHOSTED. They have yet to answer any attempts of contact by my insurance. Recently we were told they no longer were doing business with that valet company, so too bad so sad. THEY REFUSE TO RETURN CALLS, E-MAIL OR MAKE ANY ATTEMPT TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR COST OF MY VEHICLE. I WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN. DO NOT LET THEM PARK YOUR CAR.

The Read House was beautiful with exceptional customer service. We received a complimentary upgrade to a suite and vouchers for free glasses of champagne. The bed was very comfortable. We were right across from the infamous haunted room 311 and we survived all night with no paranormal activities! Location was great and we were able to walk around safely. There are several restaurants within walking distance and they also have a restaurant onsite. Overall this was a great experience and will definitely return.

This review is only for the bar not the Read House itself. Drinks were good (hard to mess up Jack and Ginger)Bartender made us feel unwelcome and ignored by having zero engagement.Vibe was nonexistent. So many other places within walking distance to spend one's money.

Came on an extremely busy night after a concert in town and the bar was PACKED. Good for them, but they were clearly not prepared for it. Took a while to get service and drinks... ok, expected. Server was not the friendliest. Ordered my Expensive bourbon choice as follows: "neat, with a *tiny* splash of water". You'dve thought I ordered a llama with a side of orangutan. Came out packed FULL of ice. Refused and asked for it the way I originally ordered it, again. Watched her go to the bartender, the bartender pulled out a strainer, strained that horribly watered down expensive bourbon into a new glass, and the waitress brought it back over like they did me a favor and I should just be happy about it. Even made eye contact with her while she was standing at the bar. They knew what they were doing, and clearly thought they were in the right. You can't serve as expensive of stuff as they have here (great selections by the way, the only purpose for the 2 stars) and not know how to properly prepare and serve them. Also got the parm truffle fries to munch on with our drinks. Mistake. Save your $11-13. They were the worlds plainest fries. Cooked and served with no seasoning on the fries themselves, just making them taste plain and boring. Yes, they tossed the parm on top, but hardly and truffle flavor at all. These were a waste in my opinion. When next we are in the area, we'd definitely eat at the hotel's Bridgeman Chophouse place again, which is down the hall from this bar, but we will absolutely not return to the Bar & Billiards for any drinks. Told the front desk manager about our experience at checkout the next morning. He was supremely unhelpful and just said we should have refused service and left. Didn't seem to care about our experience at all. Le sigh.

This is a very pretty and romantic bar in the historic Read House Hotel serving old school cocktails. My favorite time of year is Christmas, because it feels extremely festive to meet friends for happy hour with the lobby decorated so beautifully. The staff dresses like flappers, so if that is your jam, this is the place for you!

Good drinks, and surprisingly, did not realize there was a pretty good food menu.
