Champy's was recommended to us by a local, and we are so glad we listened! First, the parking is free. That's a big plus. When we exited the car, the incredible smell hit us, and that's when we knew we were in for an excellent meal. There are three dining areas to choose from: one is a three-season covered area, the next is a large bar area, the third is a smaller bar area. In the two bar areas, there are dollar bills decorating the walls. There are old pictures and artifacts. Service was fast. Sweet tea was spot on. The sausage/cheese/pickle appetizer could have been a meal for one person. I had the fried catfish platter, and it was perfect. My husband had the chicken nugget platter, and he thought the chicken was amazing. Our travel companions had the 3-piece white chicken platters, and they were extremely happy. We all left full and super glad we stopped in.

Interesting restaurant with dollar bills and decorations everywhere. The chicken is some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in years. I will definitely get this chicken whenever I visit Chattanooga. Highly recommended!

Fried chicken was awesome. Sides were very good. Service was very slack. We ran out of drinks several times. We asked for more and finished our meal before more arrived.

Just left Champy’s on MLK… Arrived at 12:40 and it wasn’t very busy at all.I was greeted and seated, ordered a Fried chicken salad and sweet tea. Sweet tea arrived right away.I then sat there until 1:30 and never heard another peep out of my waitress or anyone else so I placed $2 on the table and left. Not sure if they had to catch a free range chicken or what but that’s ridiculous.Last visit I ordered the same thing but the greens were freezer burnt and it was overall crappy.I didn’t leave a review or anything but this time I’m not letting it slide.Terrible. I will not visit another Champy’s location again.

I'm getting back on Yelp from a hiatus to review this joint because it was that bad. And I don't hardly ever write bad reviews. As a matter of fact, this is my second 1 star out of over 60 reviews--whatever that's worth. I'm from the Mississippi Delta. Born in Indianola and spent my whole young life in Cleveland. I live in Jackson now and go back every year to hunt and visit my folks. The tamales at this Champy's were just bad. I don't know if they are frozen, or who they're getting their recipe from, but these aren't good Delta tamales. The meal was thick and gummy, the meat ratio was off. They were wet, which is on brand for Delta tamales, but like, they were also swimming. That's not the vibe. It felt like what you would expect from a place trying to transport something from where it's from to someplace else: like how Epcot is at Disney. We also had wings that were "award winning" and they were alright. I'm not giving out awards or qualified for that, but if I were: these wings wouldn't get it. Maybe we should've gone with the fried chicken, as that's what everyone seems to be hyped about. But the signs said, Delta tamales, so I had to. We all have regrets.

If you don’t like this place, you’re just wrong. They have lights, old wood, cute waitresses with a servers attitude. Good food .

We were given recommendations to try this spot. Seems like a highlighted and very well liked place that keeps a crowd, whether dining inside or their outside patio area and or pick up to go. There's dollar bills plastered everywhere, I'm sure there's history but some of them had fuzz on them. I'm guessing dust fuzz. Anyway they were entertaining to look at while we waited for our food. I wanted catfish initially but then I thought I'm at a chicken spot so I better order what they are known for. Our apps were fried green tomatoes and they were absolutely delicious. We waited awhile for our food to come as well. I had the 2pc white and hubby had 3pc dark and our son had tenders with Mac n cheese. My wing and hubby leg were extra small. The chicken had way too much breading for me and fried crunchy hard. I couldn't taste the spice but son was fanning his tongue and hubby agreed it was a little spicy. Wish they warned us as we didn't expect that. The mac n cheese was tasteful and great for a kid option as the noodles were spiral elbows. They do have them overly saturated in cheese sauce though. We didn't eat much all around and I decided to take back to the hotel. So glad I did because we saw a homeless man and I asked if he was hungry and he said he was and I happily gave him a container full of chicken and a few green tomatoes.Parking: Can be confusing if you're rushing and/or not reading. Chappy's has free parking and their spots are visibly marked. However, the front row spots closest to the actual establishment are NOT free and the ones farthest from the establishment in the same lot are NOT free. So the 1st and last rows are paid while the middle rows are free and marked.
