It was a dark and stormy night. My church lady friends and I, weary from a 4 hour drive just wanted to take a quick break with some cheap booze and a bite to eat. Unsure of where we even were (pretend we didn’t have gps or anything), we pulled off I-40, hoping to ask a kind gas station worker where we might find some dinner. Much to our surprise, attached to the very gas station we stopped at was a fine establishment called Ponchos and Amigos, aka El Toro Mexican Grille. Well Ole! I say!! Nothing says fiesta like a gas station taco stand combination building that also slings liquor! A fellow named Ron took us to our seats, dished out some chips and salsa and started the pours. 4 stars on my plate of enchiladas 10 stars on my peach margarita - cause they had that good ice! I begged the gals for one of them to pretend a birthday so that we could wear the sombrero and get the song - but it was a no bueno from them. We paid our reasonable bill and crammed ourselves back into the mid-sized SUV the 6 of us are sharing and are now heading up to our cabin. Hoping the Mexican comida doesn’t distance us later, as this trip is for bonding! If we’re ever together again on this side of our neighboring state we sure will be back! Muy bien, indeed!

We get the special treatment every time we come no matter how long it's been!Skinny margarita to accommodate my allergy to sweet and sour is hard to come by in this county. Besides the margs the food was fire ?!!! So impressed with the effort on the flavor front ?

The worst Mexican food I've ever had, tried it twice always crap. Don't spend your money here, when I say disgusting I mean ? canned is better.Go to Don Margos next to Food City ,that's authentic Mexican Food.

In town on business. Decided to go here and get some food and take it back to my hotel room and eat. When I got back to the hotel room, I realized they are not giving me any to go silverware. Apparently, I am supposed to eat my cheese covered burritos with my fingers. Additionally, the burritos are supposed to be beef burritos. They are not beef burritos, they are bean burritos. Absolute disappointment.
The guacamole is a meal in itself. Yummy! Service was great. Order from the kids menu - Always appreciated!

To look at the outside building - it seems unimpressive, but this "book cover" is hiding a local gem. Fresh looking and tasting food, ordered to your specification and prepared then, not 3 hours ago. Servers are friendly while dashing all over the restaurant; even at the slow times it is busy as they have take-out as well as dine in. Depending on the food order it is easy on the wallet too. worth looking them up.Dietary restrictions: I have several dietary restrictions; I was able explain myself well enough to get a very nice dinner. The chicken I had was moist and flavorful, the shells for had to be corn not flour, that was not a problem. the spice level was accommodating - not too hot but well-seasoned with touch of heat. The key is reading the menu, and ask the server if you have allergies or restrictions.
Top three Mexican restaurants we've ever been to!!! Our food was INCREDIBLE, the server was so friendly and attentive, and we couldn't be happier. I can't wait to come back!!!
