This place needs management attention. The food was awful.

Just passing through and had a craving for my favorite sandwich, the Slim Jim. It was great as always and I'm glad the Slim Jim doesn't change from one Shoney's to the next. I do miss the hand-breaded onion rings, though. The service here was also great. Our server seemed to be the only one taking care of everyone during lunch even though it wasn't super busy. Lots of locals as everyone seemed to be on a first name basis. I took a look at the buffet and everything looked fresh and hot where it needed to be hot and cold where it needed to be cold. I'd offer the only real negative was the condition of the store. It wasn't dirty but it was clearly worn down and in desperate need of some updates/repairs. Also, not sure what's happening with Shoney's in general lately but they seem to be closing a lot of stores, which is disappointing because we love eating there, especially when we travel.

Unsanitary Conditions and Negligent Management: A Disastrous Dining ExperienceMy recent visit to Shoney's tonight April 27th for lunch was nothing short of a nightmare. Not only did I encounter unsanitary conditions, but the manager on duty, Dillon, displayed a shocking lack of concern when I approached him while desperately ill in one of their bathroom stalls. To add insult to injury, I even had to pay for the meal that caused me to become violently ill.The hygiene standards at Shoney's were abysmal during my visit. It was evident that cleanliness and proper sanitization were not a priority. The lack of attention to basic hygiene left me feeling disgusted and questioning the overall safety of the food being served.Unfortunately, the consequences of this negligence became apparent shortly after consuming my meal. I experienced severe illness, with symptoms including vomiting. It was an incredibly distressing experience, made worse by the fact that I had to endure it alone while Dillon refused to address my concerns.Despite being in a visibly terrible state, I approached Dillon, the manager on duty, seeking assistance. Shockingly, he showed no empathy or willingness to help. His dismissive attitude towards a customer who was clearly suffering was both disheartening and unacceptable.Adding insult to injury, I was even required to pay for the meal that made me violently ill.It is astonishing that Shoney's would expect a customer to pay for a meal that caused such severe health consequences. My purpose in writing this review is not only to express my disappointment but also to warn others about the unsanitary conditions and negligent management I experienced at Shoney's. It is my hope that this review serves as a wake-up call for the management to take immediate action to rectify these issues. My visit to Shoney's was marred by unsanitary conditions, indifferent management, and the severe illness that resulted from their food. I strongly advise potential patrons to exercise caution until these concerns are appropriately addressed.

It's virtually impossible to find chicken livers in Knoxville. I heard that Shoneys occasionally had them on their hot bar, so I started calling all the Shoneys in the area and had no luck... until I called Shoneys on Rutledge. They had them, so I jumped in the car and headed to the East Side.It was on a Friday and when I arrived I was greeted and sat by Miss Willie. I went to check out the Hot bar and not only did they have chicken livers, they had chicken wings and GUMBO!!! (Amongst many other choices). It seemed as if I had discovered the first and only "Soul Food Shoneys"!!!I started with the salad bar. It was well stocked and everything was very fresh. It was now time for the long awaited chicken livers. I got a healthy portion of Chicken livers, some wings, a bowl of gumbo and hush puppies...yes, they even had hush puppies!!!Everything was cooked to perfection. The shrimp in the gumbo was a bit overcooked and the "soup" part could have been a bit thicker, but it was very flavourful. The livers were thick and perfectly cooked. The wings were delicious and a good size. I had a small slice of cake and some pudding for dessert and it was the perfect ending to a phenomenal meal.My server, Miss Willie, was one of the sweetest servers I have ever had the pleasure of speaking with. She was prompt, attentive and engaged me with pleasant and informative conversation. I was also introduced to the manager, Rachel, and told that it was because of her that the bar was so diverse.I will be making this a regular eating location. Everything about it was fantastic experience.I HIGHLY recommend this Shoneys location.

Biscuits and gravy was good, eggs dry from setting on buffet too long, bacon was under cooked. Didn’t care for the sausage or grits. Would order our meal vs eating buffet if we go back but not likely!
