Amazing food with grown man portions. Be patient cause they are making it from scratch.Nice and courteous service.

Very happy to find this spot not far from Beale Street. Nice friendly staff and wonderful soul food! The oxtails over rice were amazing, our first time trying this dish. Catfish was crispy and good flavor. Fried okra was perfect, as was the macaroni and cheese. Portions large enough for us to take some home. Great experience!

My family and I love to try to check out some local spots when we travel. Memphis Soul (formerly 99 Cent Soul Food Express) seemed like a great spot for lunch after visiting the nearby Civil Rights Museum It was FANTASTIC. No frills. Simple. Delicious. Order at the front counter. Wait a few minutes (even if it doesn't seem busy, you might wait 10 minutes or so ... but it is WORTH IT!). Then they'll call you back up and give you a bunch of styrofoam containers. Sit down and eat. It's not glamorous, but it is delicious. My teenage son was the first to say it was far better than Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous the night before. My wife and I soon agreed. Smothered chicken breast -- I kept wanting to stop, but I couldn't skip "one more bite" about eight times. (Chicken itself was *maybe* a little dry, but the gravy was excellent and the breading was so good!) Rosemary chicken thighs moist, tender, wonderful. "Brave BBQ chicken." I don't know what it's "brave," but my son ate all of it. Mashed potatoes with gravy: Excellent. Greens: Wife loved them. Green beans: Sad and watery. "Obama" - iced tea and lemonade mix ... poured haphazardly from pre-made iced tea and lemonade bottles. Maybe just stick with water or soda. This place was quite possibly our favorite food in Memphis. Eat here.

The food is good is pretty good. Had dinner delivered today 7/10, if had car would have taken side veggies back and ask for money back its cost to much for tablespoon of food. The pictures on site are not the servings they send you. I believe thus is done because they know you don't have a ride. And when they didn't have what I ordered it was replaced without asking me.

We were in Memphis to celebrate Juneteenth and visit the Civil Rights Museum. As we were walking back to Beale Street we saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try.The inside was airy and cool with clean tables and nice music. The prices, on the other hand were likened to that of fine dining: oxtails $39, three-wing dinner $18, one slice of cake $6.99. Mind you this is lunch time and we spent almost $70 dollars for two people. The food was underwhelming, first my greens beans clearly came out of a can because the paper wrappings were mixed in the beans. The butter beans were not seasoned, the smothered pork chop was super salty, and the tea was not homemade (store brand). We bought cake and it was hard and the lemon cake looked just like Kroger’s.I understand establishments are recovering from the pandemic but quality over quantity is always best. Needless to say we cannot recommend this restaurant and we will not visit again.

Unsure how reviews are so high on this place. Their prices are unreasonably high but they do give large portions on meats. The food is average at best. They’d do better to decrease meat portions to something someone can actually finish in a sitting and concurrently lower the prices. It’s ridiculous to charge $26 for some mediocre fried catfish. Salmon my fiancé got was small and was average as well for $15.

Boy, was I dissapointed. I wanted to "support my own," but was VERY DISAPPOINTED with the lack of quality and the price of the meal. Oxtail plate $30+ dollars. I've traveled to all 48 states + Canada & Alaska, and never have I seen $30 Oxtails. Then for them to be cold in spots as of they were reheated straight from a cold refrigerator is absurd. You can tell they don't pan sear the Oxtails prior to simmering them down, whick locks the flavor on the meat so the beef stock or water doesn't rinse the seasoning off the meat. The food was bland as if I had COVID-19 symptoms. If you're gonna be in the SOULFOOD sector, you MUST put your SOUL into it.Also the tails couldve been younger and less tough. Tasted like the rump of Memphis and not the soul. Advice: Fire that cook and get a chef!3 stars is OK 2 is a dislike.I disliked the taste and the effort.

Food was great but service could use some work, same worker manning the food and register and fulfilling orders...unfortunately saw multiple customers walk out because the line was getting long and he couldn't keep up. Food was everything we were looking for! Tasted Like mom's home cooked meal, awesome fried okra and Mac and cheese, fried chicken was hot and made to order, best fried pork chop ever--super tender and well seasoned

I have been eating here for years. Warm welcoming staff and a bit of soul music. Wide variety of home style southern cooking. Also have vegan, vegetarian options. Near the Civil Rights Museum and Blues Foundation, on the trolley line. Quick take-away.

It took more than 30 minutes with no customers ordering but us. The shrimp and grits were top 5 worst shrimp and grits I have ever had. My kids love pancakes and sausage's and they did not like the pancakes and sausage we got here they said Dennys is better.

Loved this place. The food is amazing!!! We came in with a big group and they made sure we were taken care of and were organized. The guy pictured on the pic was so sweet and made sure if there were any problems, he fixed it. He went above and beyond to take care of us. I definitely recommend this place and will be returning because they ran out off dressing and I got to try it. Lol
