We tried the brisket, smoked turkey, ranch beans, mac & cheese and coleslaw. All were very good but we liked the beans, Turkey and coleslaw best. The bread really good too. They were very careful about keeping customers safe during Covid-19. Everyone wore masks and they even sanitized our credit card and the pen used to sign the bill. We are going to McMinnville more often and will definitely be back to this place.
If you haven’t eaten at Prater’s you’re either from four counties away or you ain’t got a vehicle. Famous for ribs, but we generally get the always good pulled pork plates. Nothing fancy—Just good. Smoked BBQ, ranch beans, peanuts on the floor, and good pies for dessert. Don’t expect the frilly fern bar decor—Just give it a try for the food and simplicity. Good food, good price, happy when you leave.

If tiny bathrooms, old tables, mismatching chairs, plastic tablecloths, etc. are deal breakers for you, then don't eat here. If some of the best barbecue in the area matters more to you than any of this, then this is where to go. One person's "dump" is another person's "hole-in-the-wall charm." For me, it's the latter.
