It's a nice hole-in-the-wall kind of place. The food is tasty. Good chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit mild. I prefer more heat/ spice.I was there for a late dinner. The prices are nice. Mid-range moderately priced. The beans and rice are delicious. I had the beef fajita enchiladas. They were decent. The food was hot, but not spicy enough for 4 stars. That's the only reason for the 3 stars. I love spicy food. They have Dos Equis on tap, which was lovely. The service was great. Very professional and pleasant. Overall lovely dining experience.Parking: It's parking up front, and there seemed to be extra parking on the side of the building.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a lot of open space for tables to be moved in order to accommodate a person in a wheelchair.

I used to live down the street a decade ago. Really loved this place... like once a week 'loved.' My mom wanted to go while I was up north, and I was excited to go. Used to be a solid meal at a good price, friendly service, and cheap XX.Blah. Just, blah.Everything was cooked right but annoyingly bland (I had her leftovers). Salsa had no kick, chewy bag chips. The server could not care less, and it showed. (Earbud helped) Place clean and tidy, looked good overall. The food industry has been really hard, and little things can build over time to make that environment. Makes me sad because they are prepped for success with that complex coming in.It was a miss this time, but I'd be bummed to see them fold. Get your head in the game and stay steady. You're almost there.Parking: Additional parking behind the building.

The worst food I've ever had. I was so hungry walking into the place. Queso looked like putty it was so thick. The picadillo inside my enchiladas had a metallic taste and looked more like sauce then meat. Then they poured a quart of sauce over the enchiladas so that the flour tortillas were just like a wet diaper. I pushed the food forward. No one ever asked how it was. Seems like they are used to people not liking the food. The lady at the counter asked how ot was i said i didn't like the enchiladas that they tasted funny and there wasn't any meat in the enchiladas. Texas mex enchiladas tasted like a dirty sink. I feel sick and im still hungry and out 30$.

Small, family run restaurant that is simple and satisfying. MENUDO AVAILABLE EVERYDAY! If you indulge, you know that's traditionally "only on the weekends" at most joints. Great for margarita breaks if one is doing laundry next door at the Woodrow Washateria.Dietary restrictions: Not a lot of options. Small kitchen doing it like your abuela's house.Parking: A few spots in front w/larger lot accessible by driving around back or enter via Woodrow.

I almost hate to publicly post this review. Our family used to love Chekos! I love that it's local. I love that it's family owned. But, here's the deal. They've raised their prices but also lowered their quality. The service is mediocre and they do things like up charge for not using cash without notification, and always seem to just keep hitting buttons on the cash register when they check you out without really posting prices clearly. Tonight we paid almost 100 bucks for two kids meals, two soups and two margaritas. It's not super fancy, it's a familiar neighborhood quick meal that usually hits the spot without crushing the wallet. At least, it used to be.

I dislike giving bad reviews but some places truly deserve it. A quick check of other reviews made this place seem like a good choice. I often wonder how other diners experiences can be soooo different from my own. Cheko's, on this day at least, deserves this review. On a brief trip to Austin a friend suggested meeting here (it's across the street from his apt) and says that he likes the place. He's from the east coast so I now doubt his ability to judge Tex-Mex but I digress. At 5pm on a Wednesday, on a major street, I walk into a completely empty restaurant. No cooking aromas. No mariachi music. Nothing. After a long look at the large menu I chose a gordita with picadillo and my friend chooses a carne asada plate. These orders came to the table VERY quickly. At first I was astonished but then they came into view. My gordita was a rock hard, flat, thin slab of masa with the filling oozing around the sides. No lettuce, no tomato, cheese...just beans and meat. (The gordita on the menu included those items) I sent it back immediately and then ordered two carne guisada tacos. (pictured) This also came to the table VERY quickly. The tortillas were possibly 6" across and the carne was bleeding from each end. I used my fork to taste the guisada only to get a big mouthful of fatty beef nugget hidden behind the sauce. I picked at it for a while and left it. My friend's plate was an unholy looking mess of thin cut carne asada (it didn't look fresh...or even hot), guacamole slices, nopales, cheese, and rice, All slopped together. It was hideous. He didn't finish it. Cheko's should "finish". It's plain bad.
