Go for happy hour and try everything you can! Food, service and atmosphere was great. We let the waiter make our picks and he rocked it!

Hmm honestly I don't think UCHI is worth the hype. I think it is great to go for a one time experience for the sushi, but I don't think I would go back again. I would, however, try out uchiko and uchiba. I love sushi. I think the price is reasonable actually, but the way everyone was talking about it..i expected more. Overall it is okay, not bad, but not amazing. Food: 1. HAM AND EGGS MAKIMONO ($15) - juicy, tender pieces of fried pork belly crisped to perfection. Excellent egg yolk sauce garnish to add a new dimension to the bite. 2. FRIED ONIGIRI ($12) - crispy and chewy rice stuffed to the brim with vegetables and minced meat. Slightly on the blander side with its miso, cream base. 3. WAGYU SKEWER ($12) - smoky, tender, and juicy with a nice char and saltiness to give flavor to the beef. 4. SUZUKI YAKI ($19.5) - tender piece of grilled striped bass swimming in a hot tom yum soup. Slightly acidic, sour, and spicy. Also on the blander side. Not my favorite. 5. NEGITORO MAKIMONO ($17) - fresh and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the smoked trout roe. The fatty tuna was perfectly balanced with the thai chilis. 6. ZERO SEN MAKIMONO ($15.5) - another fresh and simple bite featuring yellowtail and greens. 7. TORO HANDROLL ($9) - simple and refreshing with marinated bluefin tuna and a side of spicy ponzu sauce. 8. SAKE TOM KHA ($9.5) - fresh, tender pieces of salmon garnished with a coconut dressing and dill. Service: I would say it lacked in this area. The time it took for the dishes to come out was quite long. We waited for a while, and it took a while for our server to check on our table. Ambiance: It was very loud and busy. The mood lighting is nice though! It was dim and seems good for a date night. Overall, Uchi is a good experience and for tastings of fresh sushi. I wouldn't go back, personally, but it wasn't bad! I would recommend going once at least for the experience and just to get your own opinion on how it is (see whether or not you think it is worth the hype). Let me know! Also none of my pictures would load or get attached, so feel free to check out my food instagram @the.real.lisa.h where I have a post about Uchi and other restaurants!

For our bachelor party in Austin, we decided to switch gears from the traditional Texan BBQ scene and opted for some Japanese cuisine at Uchi. Initially hesitant about finding top-notch sushi in Texas, I was pleasantly surprised by the impeccable quality of fish and craftsmanship on display here. While the prices may lean towards the higher end and the portions are modest (as is customary with fine dining), the food quality and ambiance are truly unbeatable. Our waiter, who was nothing short of exceptional, guided us through the menu with expert recommendations. He even treated us to a delightful surprise--wagyu nigiri (which we devoured and I totally forgot to document)--knowing it was a special occasion for our bachelor party. For larger groups like ours, I highly recommend going the à la carte route rather than opting for omakase. Not only do you get more value for your money, but you also have full control over your dining experience. We indulged in a variety of cuts of fish, unagi nigiri, wagyu nigiri, shishito peppers, salad, and mapo tofu. To cap off our feast, we indulged in some tapioca and candy bar desserts, which we inhaled in record time. In the heart of Texas, Uchi stands as a testament to the diversity and excellence of the Austin dining scene. Try it out - you won't regret it! Tip: I recommend making a reservation before visiting to ensure you secure a spot at this gem of a place.

The hot rock Wagyu was excellent. Menu was a little on the pricey side, but the quality of food was unparalleled and the service was great.

I was skeptical of eating sushi in Austin, being far from the ocean. But a couple trusted foodie friends told me to eat at Uchi. And it was amazing in all ways. Buzzy vibe, not classic Japanese decor, and it totally worked.Everything on the menu looked incredible and I couldn't decide. So I did a custom omakase, where I told them how many courses and what I liked. The sushi chef delighted me with each of the 7 courses. Portion sizes were nice by sushi standards. And I opted for a savory dessert course of foie gras sushi - heavenly. If you love sushi, then Uchi is a must do when you are in Austin.

Given the high quality of fish they purchase from japan and the high prices i would expect much higher quality end product. The nigiri pieces are improperly cut far too small and the sushi rice is not seasoned (should be seasoned with rice vinegar and mirin). If you want good sushi don’t come here. If you want a certain vibe, think an austin version of Nobu, come here. You just can’t serve good sushi to a cafeteria full of people (way too many tables in there). Good sides, steak and cocktails.

The food is not that bad, just significantly over priced. It is noticeably worse than similar priced sushi in NYC. 吃了个寂寞。

Very RUDE and judgmental staff! I was really excited to try Uchi until I arrived and met the employees. The hostess and servers are not nice. I will NOT be coming back! Only stayed for a drink because of the rudeness!

Incredible. It felt like we were at top chef and got to be judges and enjoy amazing food. We were seated immediately with our reservation, which we made during happy hour online. Our waitress and all support staff were phenomenal and offered great recommendations and were so well studied on the menu and dish ingredients. Every dish was amazing. Even foods we wouldn't usually try ourselves, like the wagyu carpaccio, uchi made incredible. Each dish was so balanced with a sauce/acid/ or something crisp. We got the happy hour Chefs Special, and two sushi rolls! The Zen with yellowtail and the one with blue fin tuna. We did feel like an old lady bc i felt the restaurant itself was too dark but overall it's a super cool place!

This is one of the best place to get Japanese cuisine. They fly the fishes from Japan. Melts in your mouth. We ordered whatever our sushi master recommended and was amazing. Love this spot. My favorite in Austin.

It’s a great restaurant, no one can deny that. To go on Tuesday night and finding out the restaurant is completely full and even when we made a reservation, we had to wait for about 20 minutes to be seated. But after I got a little sour of the waiting, the food, the atmosphere and the service just made me forget about it.There is huge variety, and everything is fresh and the presentation is mind blowing. We used to live close by and were going there a good lot. Now that we have moved to Leander, we are coming a lot less but still making the drive.
