Happy hour was excellent. $5 house margaritas, but our server pointed out that as it was "Tequila Tuesday" all margaritas were half price and recommended that we go with a top shelf option. So we went with some excellent specialty margaritas. All appetizers were also half price. We had the chips with queso/guac/salsa and a plate of nachos which were all very generously portioned. Also had the crab stuffed mushrooms and shrimp tostada bites. Everything was excellent. Our server was outstanding, making helpful recommendations, very friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Definitely a top choice for happy hour.

Very welcoming staff, laid back atmosphere, and the food was worth the visit. If you are looking for great flavor with a little kick at the end this is your place to eat. The menu should be updated to what is actually available. The dishes that piqued my curiosity were no longer available. Either way this place is worth a second visit.

Stopped here for a quick mimosa and snack before a heftier lunch. Service was extremely friendly and quick. The mimosas were yummy and surprisingly got you pretty buzzed. The queso had a dash of chipotle and was on the thicker side but overall yummy! The only qualm I had was that the entire space smelled faintly of a bathroom.

I have to put a star to submit review; however this restaurant deserves 0 stars! My husband and I sat at the bar the service was terrible! We had to ask if our food was ordered took forever to get food. We had different bartenders because the manager on call kept giving them different duties! No one checked back to see if we needed anything we had to be on the look out for one of the bartenders that served us to ask for utensils and another beverage! I at one point had to go look for one of the bartenders to order something else to eat. The food was very good! I will not return because the service was so bad! My husband and I will not recommend to anyone. Austin has so many fabulous restaurants! Not this Z Tejas on 6th St!

Visited Z'Tejas while in town for a conference and had a pretty good time! The strawberry margaritas are superior to the regular, the queso was very appetizing (and that's saying something because I'm a guac guy), the cornbread was a lot better than expected, and it was an all around good experience! The one exception is that the Diablo pasta could've used more flavor (what type, not sure--maybe even salt would have done the trick), but my friend loved hers so that certainly shouldn't be a dealbreaker. Would recommend!

Not good at all. Watery con queso sugary salsa Nothing to write home about nachos are full shrimp tacos the deserts were so bad the bread pudding was bad real bad and the flan was nothing to write home about Service was reasonable aside from the fact that the champ spilled margaritas on my pants and did not even notice or apologize and each time he would bring a spoon or something he would hold it by the tip where you are supposed to put in your mouth Another server who brought the guacamole had his finger on the side of the ball inserted in the guacamole I enjoyed spending time with my friends of course so I'm giving this place two

Went here on a Saturday night and it was completely empty which was strange the food was super good though and very spicy the only think I wasn't happy with was the lack of chorizo on the salad. Also deff ask for the habanero salads

Dinner here was great as always! Michael, our server, remembered us from the last time we were there. He was excellent as always and gave us amazing drink & meal recommendations! The Ahi Tuna salad was delicious and the raspberry coconut margarita was my favorite alcoholic beverage I've ever had there. Definitely worth it! Very sad to know this location will be closing next year, but just enough time to make it back another time or two. :)

After hearing this Austin staple was closing early next year I decide I finally needed to check this place out. Not that we're lacking any Mexican restaurants in town but as Austin keeps changing we're fast losing old school Mexican joints like this one. ZTejas had it all for me: an extensive menu, ample indoor/outdoor seating, downtown parking and good service what else could you ask for? I ended up trying out their migas dish for brunch while my partner tried out the adobo chorizo meatloaf. My migas was good but nothing too special but by far the meatloaf dish stood out to me for both its flavor and uniqueness. Brunch was accompanied by a nice view of the intimate outdoor patio seating a some live music that rounded out a nice dining experience. Don't come here looking for a fancy dining experience but I for one enjoyed myself and do hope they end up finding a new location downtown for future Austinite generations to enjoy!

Stopped in for dinner as this was with walking distance of our Air BnB. Food did not disappoint. Wife's frozen margarita was partially frozen but it was good and so was my mojito.Wife has the pork & chorizo meatloaf and I had the chicken dish off the summer menu. Both were well seasoned with just the right amount of heat to give it a great flavor. We'll definitely go back.

The food and atmosphere of this restaurant are top notch. Michael is hands down the best. He’s a man of the people and by far one of the best servers I’ve ever had.

Z'Tejas has been an all time favorite for many years! I rarely find myself in that area (West of Lamar on 6th), nevertheless when I happen to be stomping around that neighborhood I make a stop. They have one of the most delicious frozen Marg recipe! I'm an unofficial local expert in the frozen beverage department! Enjoy drink & food, vibe, decor, layout (multiple level seating, finally cheerful staff!

Great atmosphere and cocktails. Service was very quick and waiters were super nice. Our meals themselves were a little disappointing. Nothing was bad, but the salmon was too bland for my liking. The guac and chips was more memorable. But would probably return to try other items on the menu.
