I went today, which was Friday, and it was unexpectedly not crowded. I went with a friend., So there were two of us. This place used to always be packed on Fridays and Saturdays. I haven’t been for a while. I had today’s special which was fried catfish, and it consisted of three VERY small pieces, mostly batter. The side choices were coleslaw, mashed potatoes, Catalina vegetables and spinach, and I thought those were some odd choices to go with fried catfish, except for the coleslaw, but that was just my opinion on that. Other people might’ve thought differently. The two small hush puppies, and the nice serving of cornbread were very good.The Catalina vegetables were broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, which had absolutely no taste or seasoning, but then I asked the waiter, and he informed me that they were frozen vegetables….not fresh! The peach cobbler that came with the meal was not good enough to eat. I took one bite and pushed it away.Our waiter was so impersonal and acted as though he’d rather be anywhere else but at JW Steakhouse waiting on us. Even though I didn’t enjoy his service, I gave him a fair tip.Overall, not a good experience.

Talk about a great little country steak house that is as good as they come, JW's is it! It all starts with the folks that work there. Nice folks or as my Grandad would say "Salt of the Earth kind people". The food is even more impressive. The steak was a perfect medium and I did not even need a knife to cut it as it was so tender. And the vegetables were could have been a meal by themselves. If you are driving down 290 going through Carmine and you don't stop at JW's Steakhouse, you will miss a Texas Country Favorite.

The food here is amazing, I was in the area with friends. I'd be willing to drive from Houston just to eat here!!! Again!!!!
Our waitress was an absolute sweetheart and attentive. The food prices were really high. Baked potato was alright but I've had better, which makes no sense. Baked potato is pretty basic. Hubs and i both got the ribeye, and its labeled as their most flavourful steak, and it most certainly is not. For the first time in my life, i asked for A1 sauce to go with it. My son got the chicken fried steak and he said it wasn't very good, and trust me thus boy eats the same thing at every restaurant he goes to that serves it, haha. Salad was okay. Presentation was good. Restaurant is cute and well laid out. Nice and comfy.

I am trying to pick off restaurants from my "want to go list" every Saturday, and this one was worth the drive to the country..The parking was fairly full, but there was plenty of seating. Our waitress handed us menus and brought water while we looked over the selections. My wife got the luncheon chicken fried steak and I ordered the patty melt..Our food arrived promptly, and it was very good. Besides being delicious, my wife appreciated the smaller portion. She still struggled to finish it. My patty melt was great as well. I too had a hard time joining the Clean Plate Club..It's a bit of a shame, because their pie case was very tempting..This will be a prime location during the Round Top Antique Show or while bluebonnet hunting. Our experience was excellent and we'd be sure to stop when near.

Had the Friday night prime rib special. It was very good with a baked potato casserole and green beans. We had to start dinner with some of their onion rings! Wow! They were great.
