Went there two days in a row and the best way to put it is this restaurant is very bipolar. On the first day the music was rock/metal and we had a very nice server Jen who was quick with refills and service. The second day we went, no server and we were serviced by the bartender, so even though we were at a table we ended up going to the bar to order food and drinks. The second day the music was more oldies? Hippie? I don't even know what to call it. Either way, food was decent and prices were reasonable with drink specials.
Love this place! Definitely my favorite place in Deep Ellum. GREAT steaks at the best price and don't even get me started on the truffle fries and Brussels!! ?Also the staff is super chill and friendly, good vibes, good music, and definitely recommend as a Dallas local.

Cheapsteaks is a unique restaurant for the Deep Ellum culinary scene. Its simple menu offers two beef options - a house sirloin and a butcher's tenderloin (hanger steak) - with a side of truffled French fries or my personal favorite, flash fried Brussels sprouts loaded with delicious savory bacon. Staying true to the “keep it simple stupid” theme your choice for the preparation of your steak is “pink” or “no pink.” The outcome is a truly delicious meal at an amazingly “cheap steak” price point. Granted Cheapsteaks isn't going to compete with Bob's, Nick and Sam's, Pappas Bros' or your standard Ruth's Chris chain steakhouse for a USDA Prime cut of beef. However, Cheapsteaks does win in one category - A tasty well-prepared perfectly proportioned steak at a price that leaves enough change in your pockets to buy a couple of more rounds of bourbon to accompany the meal for you and your friends. I will say that Cheapsteaks did come up short when it came to the quality of the Manhattan poured for me the night I visited this funky music-steak dive. The bartender was definitely heavy handed with the Angostura bitters and sweet vermouth ratios. So much so that the Cheapsteaks Manhattan qualifies as one of the top five worst Manhattans I've attempted to drink in my many years of sipping this classic cocktail.

I probably expected more than I should have for a place called cheapsteaks. The food was good, portions were small. Char-grilled steak was tasty, if overdone. Fries and Brussels sprouts were awesome. The brussel sprout serving was HUGE.

This a great place to hang out and have a drink and/or grab a bite to eat. The vibe is very cool and the bartender can suggest great drink options. Please try the Mexican Candy shot, this was totally bomb! Loved hanging out here. Live music or intercom music with good upbeat selections.Vegetarian options: They have a great portobello “steak” sandwich option. Also, they have sides like brussel sprouts and green beans.Kid-friendliness: It’s a bar that has seating out back with picnic tables where kids can hang out with you while you enjoy a drink or food.

Went on a Saturday with reservations. Nobody but the bartender working with a party bike flooding the bar. Sat for our reservation - no idea why we needed one - they had a sign to seat yourself. Noise was nuts and not a place to really have dinner let alone a steak. Literally no waitstaff at dinner time.
The truth is, I loved it, I had the pleasure of spending the day there on 12/30/2023 and wow, it was a super good and healthy atmosphere where we all drank and danced, it was almost collapsed and still the atmosphere was 20 out of 10. Service, atmosphere, quality The drinks are literally all spectacular.

If I could give this a negative star I would. I went to a concert at this venue and the security guards there were extremely hostile towards the band members and patrons. I have never felt so angry and scared of security. Rather than feel safe, I felt very uncomfortable and scared. I personally witnessed one security guard push a drunk man out on the sidewalk who wasn’t doing anything but leaving and the same security guard cussing out the members of the band berate band while they were packing up and leaving. So unprofessional and will never go again. Do better.

The worst security I’ve ever seen. After the singer of a band got hurt, security proceeded to tackle multiple people and acted incredibly hostile towards the bands and patrons. Never focused on the injury but instead went on a power trying trying to fist fight everyone and threatening to have band members arrested when they tried to pack out their gear. So unprofessional. I will never again go to a third string event or this venue. If you don’t want to be beaten for being a bystander, I suggest you don’t either.
