I'm not sure this place even exists. I went to their location on apple maps, not there, tried calling them, no answer. I really wanted to try this place too.

We had the pleasure of experiencing Yatai for the first time at a Pop Up event at Rahr and Sons. One of the coldest morning of the year and the prospect of a nice seasonal ale form Rahr had our expectations set very high. Yatai met not only met our expectations, but far exceeded them. They were well prepared to deal with 100-150 customers showing up in a short window of time, Now for the Ramen itself, the broth was as tasty as you could ever hope for. The noodles had a perfect texture. All of the ingredients blended well. The only challenges remaining are: "How do I get them to show up at some of my usual hangouts?" or more likely "I am going to have to track them and show up at their usual hangouts.". Either I want to enjoy more Ramen and the rest of their menu.

Jake and OJ miss you Kevin!!! The Yatai Food Cart used to be posted up in the parking lot of Avoca regularly. We can't find the cart anymore down on Magnolia Street. We can't find it anywhere? It's the best Ramen you'll ever experience! Come back Kevin!!

I've been going to Kevin for my ramen fix for a few months now. He has not disappointed me in the slightest. Every dish I've tried from him has been wonderful. From his congee, to his yakisoba, and the best of the best ramen that dfw can offer. His hours may be off, but you can reliably catch him for a work lunch at the food truck park on Sunday between 11 am to 8pm.

We decided to come here after a big failed dinner 3hours prior. I feel like it's almost a "curse" now for us, whenever we come to this part of town for dinner, we'd end up having either 2 dinners, or would hop to at least 2-3 places for dessert/coffee afterward. Seeing that Yatai has the perfect Yelp rating, and all the pictures look delicious, my SO suggested we give them a try after our coffee/dessert break from our first dinner. We couldn't find the opening hour, tried to call them to see if they're still open, but no one answered. We decided to drive here anyway, since it was only about 5mins from where we were at, worst case scenario, we could always go to Avoca (where Yatai locates right in front of) for more coffee and dessert. Yup, we are piggies, i know. The only thing that being served when we came was ramen noodles which exactly what we had in mind coming here. You come up to the little window, place your order with the super friendly owner, pick a seat at one of the outdoor tables nearby, he'll call you over to pick up your food once it's done. After you're done, discard everything into the big trash can on the side walk, and pay as the very last. The ramen was one of the best I have had, from the texture of the noodles, the amount of meat, to the flavor of the broth, everything was on point. Since their menu changes often, we'll definitely come back to try other dishes.

So this place is located in the parking of Avoca on Magnolia. Initially, the store looks small as it is ran by one chef, Chef Kevin. But this place is amazing. We were greeted by the chef himself, super nice and the menu is simple, ramen or the special for the day. Tonight, we had two ramen and one Kimchi hotdog. Again, the ramen is simply amazing. Kevin made it lighter since the weather is warmer by combining the broth with 2 parts miso and 1 part shots, thus making it lighter. The flavor is full at the same time. In addition, the Kimchi hotdog is tasty and flavorful as the ramen. Totally enjoying the ambience of eating on the open, and eating around locals and friends of Chef Kevin. Highly recommend for one to try. Plus Avoca is literally next to us.

I finally got to try Yatai. I wasn't very hungry, but the moment I saw Yatai sitting in front of Avoca, I said !@#$ it. Brah. The owner has to be one of the coolest owners I have ever met. When he speaks, he exudes and friendliness and kindness I don't see from many restaurant owners. I pride myself in reading people. I kept looking for any body language that would tell me this guy is acting fake. Nah. This guy is real deal nice. On to the ramen. I asked Kevin (?) if he had any offerings without meat or just seafood. He said the broth that day was fish based. Cool! Then, he said he could do double egg and throw some kim chi into it. DAMN! DAMN DAMN DAMN! I get it. The noodles were awesome. I kind of understand why people nose rub package ramen now. The brother was banging! I don't think I ever had broth stick to my ribs, but I still got this junk stuck from dinner yesterday night. (I'm writing this the following morning.) Also included were two slivers of dried seaweed. Props to the food cart. You inspire me to steal your idea and make a competing ramen cart. JK. I'm not motivated at all. Carry on.

Yatai Food Kart doesn't have official hours, so your best chance at locating them is by following them on Instagram @yatai_food_kart. We tracked Kevin down to an art show where he was serving pork sliders, chicken with watermelon, and a red bean popsicle dessert. Pork sliders were alright, perhaps needing some sort of sauce or softer bun. We reeeeally enjoyed the lightly battered chicken on a skewer, served with watermelon topped with salt and some sweet-ish black flakes. The chicken was so juicy and moist, and it paired perfectly with the salty-sweet watermelon. Delicious!! He has a short rotating menu, so come with an open mind. We were hoping to try his ramen, pork buns, or okonomiyaki, so we'll have to hunt him down again for more Japanese goodies. I can definitely see his food truck gaining plenty of attention in the near future! :)
