Anvil is, without a doubt, my favorite cocktail bar. And that's not just within Houston. The consistent quality of their cocktails is simply unrivaled. They have a rotating selection of featured cocktails, but half the time I order from their list of 100 classics because they craft them to near-perfection (sometimes perfection, if I'm being honest). Yesterday, I tried a new one containing shōchū, reposado tequila, and black sesame... my adjectives wouldn't do justice to the simple elegance and brilliance of that cocktail. They don't offer happy hour nor outdoor seating. There are probably ~15-20 seats at the bar and then 8-12 booths along the windows, each of which fits 4-5 people. The bartenders are always amazing, their knowledge of the craft is impressive. At the end of the day, Anvil isn't trying to rope you in with trendy fads nor great deals. But I suspect you'll be back for a return visit, because they're serving the highest-quality cocktails in town

After a co-working day downstairs at Refuge, my friend and I went upstairs to Anvil as soon as they opened at 5pm on a Tuesday where all cocktails (including their martinis-of-the-month menu) were half off from 5pm - 6pm. We were quickly seated at the bar (after being asked if we had a reservation -- we did not) and greeted with warm towels by April, the bartender. The cocktail menu was extensive and listed many ingredients that I'd never heard of; April was extremely kind and patient when offering explanations of the different drink ingredients and making recommendations based on our taste buds. I was in for a treat after trying the Brandy Alexander (it came with a small cookie remnant of Biscoff -- perfect pairing for the cognac & cream drink) and Huckleberry Hound (similar to a raspberry + blackberry margarita). I only wish that my drinks were stronger. My friend had: the Refuge ICEE (potent! Just like I like it), Shiso Gimlet, and the Bikini Tini (tropical & sweet). I'll return for a date night -- the ambiance and soft tunes are perfect for getting cozy and would still be able to hold conversation.

This bar it's very unique and amazing. They have all kinds of different drinks and they are all different and really good. The atmosphere is really fun and amazing and the people are super friendly. Service is also really good and fast. This is definitely a cocktail bar that I will definitely recommend to people who wants to spend some quality time together.

The best cocktails in the world! Having dined at some of the best cocktail bars in major cities across the globe, I have yet to come across cocktails as consistently delicious as those at Anvil. The quality of the ingredients is unmatched and the level of hospitality is top tier. When you go, do yourself a favor and order a Hotel Nacional, I promise you you won’t regret it!
