I’m flabbergasted why this place has such high review score. I understand that atmosphere and interior design might be subjective and just not my taste but others (it feels cold and a bit cheap). But how can people rate the food so high? We had a cocktail, ribs and signature rolls. Neither was good or worth the money. The rolls were mediocre at best. The ribs were difficult to eat - all you have are chopsticks for that. And not a standard in Houston/Texas at all..I can NOT recommend the place

Coming in was such a refreshing experience. I don’t leave a lot of reviews but this place had an extraordinary atmosphere and such kind service!! I went during my anniversary and they wrote “happy anniversary” on the desert plate ? 10/10 would recommend! Also, all the employees looked like they enjoy what they’re doing which was amazing ?

This has to be one of the greatest sushi places in Houston. And that's not for lack of competition! Between the atmosphere, extremely knowledgeable staff, and incredible food, you'd be hard pressed to find an area to improve. Literally every single dish is incredible - you can't go wrong.

Shun is special in a way that to us it’s many things — a neighborhood kitchen of friends with extraordinary culinary skills; an establishment to be proud of to bring friends and family from out-of-town; a lighthouse to point ways and share resources in the AAPI community. We like to come here when we have a bad day. Simple hand rolls and craft cocktails are remedies all problems. Yet, there is beauty in simplicity. How to bridge Japanese culinary skill to Texan palate? Not one place does better than shun.

Cool dining atmosphere with a young vibe and modern feeling. We really loved the Spicy Edamame and the Whole Snapper with garlic and curry spice and purple onions.

The hotate nigiri was plump and good. The Bacon Mochi Robata with side of cabbage salad was not cooked as well as before. The mochi (hard) and bacon (warm only) were barely grilled the first time the dish came out. They tried to fix it the second time, but it still came out wrong (slightly softer mochi but still needed a few more minutes). I've had it before so can say it's supposed to taste like a yummy chewy and smoky grilled mochi stick with a caramelized and slightly crunchy thick bacon wrapper. The Indo Karaage (chili-curry marinated chicken thigh with pickled purple onion, mint, radish, tofu tzatziki sauce) was pretty good, especially with a bowl of white rice. The pickled purple onion was a nice surprise. Usually the pickles here are too vinegary for me, but this one tasted yummy. I hope the new kitchen staff works out some of the new kinks they've developed.

Sushi quality is absolutely insane. I wouldn't order things like their uni pasta, which is strangely enough what I came for. It was incredibly bland and underwhelming. However, their nigiri was out of this world. Every piece melted in my mouth, and I loved watching the sushi chefs masterfully create each piece. Service was great as well. Shun is definitely on the more higher end and expensive side, but for their fish quality, I'd say it's expected.

Food: 4 stars - we ordered a bunch of nigiri pieces and the uni carbonara. The fish was very fresh and tasty. The only issue was the rice and I didn't expect it to make that much of a difference but the rice had too much rice vinegar in it and took away from the taste of the fish. Some pieces were super sour. We ordered the pieces of wagyu and wagyu with foie gras some of these pieces were bitter maybe because it was charred too much. For the price of these pieces I wish they were perfect. Our fav was the otoro+uni. The fresh wasabi was $7 and it was a small amount (for $7 they should give at least double the amount they gave us) Uni carbonara was amazing def must get when here. If you're going here for sushi and order a-la cart it's gonna cost you a good amount (instead of $$ it would be $$$$) so I wish there was a nigiri tasting or Omakase. Drinks: we got the matcha-yuzu ade which was awesome. The lavender mule and lychee martini were both also good. Service: amazing service very attentive but not too overbearing.

I've mostly been coming here for lunch when it had Hako Bento, but I finally gave the dinner experience a try and was not disappointed. I was drawn to the Uni Carbonara I saw on Instagram (totally drool-worthy and, spoiler alert, SO rich and delish). Other than the Uni Carbonara, I tried the Yuzu Ceviche (so fresh and light), Corny Tempura, Kinoko Polenta, Hamachi Kama Yaki (I would def recommend), One Pinch (very interesting and yummy if you like crab tempura), and the Negitoro Roll (the simplest thing we ordered but my absolute fav thing I had here). For dessert, we had the Soufflé Cheesecake, which was fluffy and not **too** sweet. The wild berry compote complemented the cake very well. Our server was great! She recommended some great dishes and gave us some ideas for sake pairings. The service is also pretty fast which is impressive considering the quality of food! Parking situation: on-site but can be limited during busy hours

This place is a little pricey but a great place nonetheless! I personally am not huge into small plate establishments but my gf wanted to go and wow I was impressed! The food was delicious and the service was great and the interior was a 10/10! The service was great to, I recommend the lobster tempura as my favorite!

This experience was... *chef's kiss.* Shun doesn't hold back - and you shouldn't either from having one of the greatest Japanese dinners during your time in Houston. From sushi to creative fusions, Shun provides! I definitely got overexcited and it made for some blurry photos.. but let me tell you, the fish is fresh & the fusions are fantastic! If I were to recommend anything off the bat, the Venison and Gnocchi stands out! The Gnocchi is made from purple yams & the venison is so mOiSt & delightful! The ceviche was fantastic too! All the rolls were great - you really can't go wrong with any selection here. Their drinks are also fantastic! Note: they have rotating specials, so ask what's poppin! Only thing I'd say to maybe miss out on is anything uni related. I wanted to try since it's hard to get a hold of and prićey, but it wasn't worth the $$. Uni has the texture of a tongue. I'm sure this uni was great, but I'm just not a fan - especially for the high price each piece costs. Will definitely be back!

the ambiance of shun was really nice and had this authentic feel to it, i was so excited and couldn't wait to dive into the menu. every sushi restaurant is unique and different, some having similar menu items and others having far different. i'm not experienced with all sorts of sushi so when the waiter comes to the table i ask him, "which is the best hand roll on the happy hour menu." he then responds, "it's whatever you like." i didn't really like his response so i took it upon myself to rephrase the question by narrowing it down and maybe i would get a better response. i wanted to try a more adventurous roll but i kept it simple at this point, and i ask, "so out of the tuna roll or the salmon roll which is better?" he seemed annoyed with his response of "it's up to you." for the final time i ask, "which is more popular?" he says, "i don't know it depends on the person." --really? i didn't appreciate this energy at all. the service here is a bit slow. the hand rolls and ceviche came out extremely fast as if it were sitting there pre-made waiting for the next person to grab and the drinks came about ten mins after. it also took the waiter a while to come back to the table so that we could order more food. started off with spicy tuna handroll which was absolutely delish and followed with the yuzu ceviche, which i must say was quite refreshing! i was so amazed and impressed by the cool crisp bites in the ceviche. tokyotini was superb! the drink is sweet but not too sweet, light and refreshing. next up spicy tuna roll and spicy salmon roll. not quite sure why the "spicy" name is included in either because there was no spice to either one of these rolls, much less any flavor. luckily the ginger helped but honestly wouldn't even bother getting this dinky roll again; so not worth it. the negitoro was yum yummm. my most favorite roll was the koma. the koma had so much flavor, different textures and this roll was eaten fastest. guess the best was saved for last! we ordered more tokyotini throughout the meal and they also took long to come as well. when it came time for the bill that was a bit of a wait. the place is small and looked pretty staffed so not quite sure what the issue was here. the service that i got here gave a great disservice to my experience so this is why i'm leaving a 3.5 review. i would love to go back but at this point i'm not sure. there are many other sushi restaurants in houston who i am sure wouldn't mind having some patience and would love to recommend items on their menu without a problem because they want or value the dinning guests business. also warning, be prepared to valet for $5 in the small parking lot because there is no parking anywhere except for the street parking along the side in the neighborhood if you're lucky.

Great place to eat. They just released their fall menu and it's still so delicious. It's our go-to restaurant and highly recommend anyone to go.All the workers are very pleasant.

My absolute favorite sushi restaurant in HTX! Chef Yoshida and his team consistently prepare the freshest and most flavorful menu selections. Parking is somewhat challenging but they offer valet on the weekends.

Wow! From the people, service, and food, everything was five stars. There was nothing I didn't like and wouldn't recommend. See my pics, too many to write them all in this post.
