This place used to be the go to for ramen. Something happened within the past year that the food isn’t even the same yet they claim it is. If you are looking to have some instant ramen for 15$ with an overcooked egg and dry pork belly…. This is the spot for you!!

Cool buildout and woodwork. Sashimi is good. I love the sprouts and the noodles. Never tried the ramen! Service is good. Good whiskey selection! The owner jack is great! Braxton and Fernando are nice and service oriented.

Absolutely delicious spot. We have been back to this spot over and over. I love the sake flight, tuna with wasabi, and rice bowls.

Food is always great. But the service from the staff has been very disappointing so many times. Im still gonna go cause food is great but service could be better. Maybe the low staff…. But on a slow night really…

Food was fantastic! We caught them on a busy night so service was kinda hectic, waiters weren't sure what table was theirs and that kinda thing, but we will be back. Cabbage was out of this world and skewers of meat were all delicious.

I loveeeeee this restaurant! everything i've had to far has been amazing! I would especially try their ramen! The skewers here are to die for and other dishes such as the raw octopus are very unique! Don't forget to try one of the cocktails from their gigantic drinks menu! I couldn't recommend this restaurant enough. I've never had a bad experience with a server here and the interior of the restaurant is gorgeous and is perfect for a night out drinking with friends.

Fantastic restaurant worth visiting in Chinatown. They have a large menu with a bunch of small appetizers that you can get to share family style while still having dedicated entrees. Their ramen was flavorful but the pork wasn't very tender, it was almost kind of crispy like carnitas. I personally don't like a very tender pork belly in my ramen but I thought I'd mention it as I know a lot of people prefer it. Their Gyozas were cooked beautifully and so crispy on the outside. This service was great and the servers came by often to refill our water jug which I appreciated. The lighting in the building was dim but they had individual lights at the tables. The decorations inside looked lovely. This would be a great spot to meet up with some friends or take someone out on a date!

i came on a Tuesday night at around 10pm. I come here pretty often but this time i sat at the bar. i always come here for the spicy black ramen and fried oysters. i would say if you want to have good service don’t sit at or around the bar. it’s one guy doing all the drinks and serving the bar area while walking drinks to table. i love the food here but 25% of the time i come i do have to wait a bit for menus to order or to pay.

Lovely izakaya - I’d eat here everydayGot to love the variety here. From gyoza to Ramen, this place is my perfect for small bites and big ones. Food are perfectly seasoned, grilled, and presented. Spicy ramen will “bite” so be ready. grilled squid is tender and dusted with reduced soyu.. very yum.Happy eating

Ordered the shisamo, “mountain man” sake, and truffle shoyu. The fish was excellent, very well balanced and delicate and was further enhanced with the lemon and dipping sauce (mayo based) provided. The sake was great as well but I can’t compare it to much since im not too much of a sake drinker.Onto the ramen. It was easily the best ramen I’ve had. Everything was executed very well. The chashu was perfectly cooked, tinder, very flavorful, and had a bit thicker cut than other chashu I’ve had. The noodles themselves had a very nice bite to them and in my opinion, were perfectly done. The broth was sublime. Very subtle flavors all coming in together to form a delightful brother packed with umami. The only disappointment was the tamago which I found to be a bit less marinated than I wanted but was also perfectly cooked.UPDATE:I don't know of they changed ownership or vendors but the food quality is much lower than the last time I visited. This WAS the closest ramen I've had in the states in terms of quality compared to Japan but now it tastes like it came from an instant noodle pack. Noodle quality is terrible, broth tasted extremely diluted, egg was not marinated, chashu has no flavor and has a chewy texture.

Food: 5/5 - I love the food at Toukei. Me and my partner come to Toukei every time we visit Houston, which is pretty often, and never get tired of their food. All of their ramens are top knotch in my opinion, but our favorite is probably the Kara-Ramen. Would definitely recommend to anyone that enjoys spice! We also will always order a side of quail eggs and baked mussels. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of their meats either.Service: 5/5 - Never had any issues with service. The waiters/waitresses are always pretty attentive and the food comes in a timely manner.Ambiance: 5/5 - The interior is probably my favorite part of the dining experience here. Every time I walk in, it feels like I'm transported back to a bar in Japan. It's pretty dimly lit, but it's so nice coming for a late night meal, which is pretty much when we always find ourselves there.

Good taste of Ramen and Variety of alcohol options.I like the menu for cocktails based on days , however did not see other people drinking.Appetizers are ok, modest opinion would be they are competing very well with taste in Chinatown.I will give 5 star for this place as it's a usual reliable restaurant to go after 11pm no matter what. Very good menu.
