So the food was actually pretty good. But the waitress knew almost nothing about the menu and the menu was real misleading. It says choose two sides and that your food is served with also salad/bread, but then told actually you can only choose one side if it comes with salad and bread. Then when we asked, 3 different people basically said oh I don’t know that’s just what the owner says. Didn’t try to fix it just said oh yeah sorry. So on top of that they gave us chips instead of bread with our queso and forgot one of our sides! I initially ordered the pork chops and was then told oh sorry we are out of those so I had to choose something else. For a Saturday night there was our group and maybe 2 other tables. Which must say something about the service. All in all the food was pretty good! Service not so much. And their “specials” just mean $1 off the regular price.

Quite possibly the worst service I’ve experienced in quite a while. After being seated we waited 15 minutes before we were approached about ordering drinks. We ordered drinks and food at the same time, and after nearly an hour wait we were told that their computer system crashed and they lost two of our orders. We were assured our orders would be ready soon. 15 minutes later, still no food and haven’t received a drink refill since we initially received our drinks. We left a $10 bill on the table and left. I highly recommend not going here. If I could give less than 1 star I would.

The catfish was good but the senior catfish had two thin pieces of fish that were tough and hard to cut, much less eat. But the fish on the regular menu were large and soft. The two piece regular catfish dinner is only 99 cents more and well worth it. The sides were fabulous. Fried squash was thin & crispy with a dusting of cornmeal. The fried okra was also dusted with seasoned cornmeal. Tomato relish was light & refreshing. All in all, a very goid choice for lunch.Parking: Loads of parking.Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair ramp.

Two customers leaving, two more arrived after we were seated in the back half of the dining room. No other diners! Evidently, the a/c wasn't working in the front half. One server, Lulu, was hosting, serving, busing tables, and cashiering. She was really working and doing a great job! Pleasant and efficient!One other person, maybe a cook, passed by and quickly returned behind the curtain.What does everyone else know that I don't? Why was there no business? The food is still good. Offers a 10% for paying in cash. A sign they're not paying their sales taxes. We waited for almost an hour. Never got a refill. Never got our food. The server finally walked by our table and said there was a "mix-up" with the computer system and they were "rushing" our order. Waited ten more minutes and left. Another patron got up and left most of his food too. Very disappointing.

Just WOW! The food was perfect. Just like I remember when I was little in Texas. We just stopped for a meal while headed out of Texas. So glad we did. Fried shrimp and catfish are just right with great flavor. Fried okra was just like grannies! Waitress was sweet and attentive. The restaurant isn’t a fancy place but you don’t need fancy when it’s this good!!

So glad we stumbled on this place while traveling. The best shrimp, catfish, chicken fingers and okra I've had since childhood. Seriously. The seasoning and breading was perfect. The restaurant isn't fancy at all but doesn't need to be with food this good today! A must stop.

Every time we go we have the best service. Our waitress remembers all the little sauces and seasonings we like. Definitely have to go for their all you can boiled shrimp it’s fantastically seasoned. All their sides have been delicious as well! We try to go every week! Great food for Kilgore!
We had two different experiences. Our first visit was great. The picture shows an order of fish tacos. The sauce that comes on them is a homemade sauce. Most sauces they give you are a homemade sauce. The french fries on the side are hand cut, fresh, and really good. We got the fried pickles for an appetizer which came with 2 sauces, one being a homemade sauce. Portions are a good size. The service on this visit was personable and friendly.Our second visit was very different. When we ordered the fried pickles, they were out of one of the sauces it comes with but didn't say this until after bringing it out. The pickles were dense with batter which made them very salty. Both my husband and I received the wrong order for our main dish. I came back for the great fish tacos but was given shrimp tacos instead. The service was not as quick. There was a bigger party in the back, so this could be the reason why. But it took so long to get out food this time, we did not want to send it back because we had somewhere to be right after so we just ate what we got although it wasn't what we ordered. Drinks were low. Our friends eating with said their food was very salty, and one of them did not finish the catfish.Both times we had the same server.The first visit was 5 stars, the second visit I would give 3; therefore balancing to 4 stars.

Good menu options. Nice staff. Clean. Go for the food. Not fancy, doesn't matter. Good catfish, shrimp, grilled chicken, turnip greens, fried squash, cole slaw. Generous portions. We'll be back.

When my hubby wants gumbo, The tackle Box is where we go. Food is always fresh and the staff is always friendly. With a comfortable atmosphere and prompt service, you just can't go wrong!
