i am not exaggerating when i say this is my favorite restaurant. i am now 24 and had been going to this restaurant for as long as i can remember, and my parents had been going to it long before i was even born. for a long time this was the only chinese restaurant in mcallen and a lot of my family's first time ever having chinese food was here (if i remember correctly, it's taiwanese). i have literally traveled all over the world and cannot find a place that tastes exactly like lotus inn. those who have been coming here for years know for a fact that the same family has been running this place since the 80s and you can really tell it has that home-made, grandparent-made flavor. their chicken and cabbage soup is the most comforting soup and i miss it so much. i always get their chicken chow mein and it's really hard to find that exact flavor anywhere. the closest i got was a random taiwanese restaurant in london. there is literally no other place like this for me and my family! i hope they re-open soon and that it has the same flavor! thank you for bringing chinese food to south texas out of all places! 太感谢了！我希望我再次可以吃你们的菜。

I ordered the special for the day, sweet and sour chicken. My wife ordered her meal of beef and mushrooms, and both came with soup. The soup, was flavorless. Then I got my meal, and the chicken was over fried and tasteless, and the rice was dry. I didn't even bother to try the egg roll. I left shortly after taking a few bites of my meal. Afterwards my wife and I both experienced intestinal discomfort after eating here. I will not eat here again, and I advise you do not either.

Always love eating there the food is delicious but this appetizer was supposedly to be calamari but sadly it looks like they gave me scraps of leftovers and none of them has squid besides a lot of breading. honestly that was 11$ down the drain

After reading reviews, we decided to give this restaurant a try only to be disappointed. The rice and ramen noodles was tasteless and while chewing the noodles felt like chewing heated plastic.

Sweet and sour chicken was not very good. Sweet and sour sauce tasted like tomato sauce. I've had better. Chun King sweet and sour sauce would have been better. ☹️

Went to Lotus as soon as they opened was craving beef broccoli and my wife was craving pati. The serves was amazing as soon as we sat down they took our drink order. The outside is deceiving thought the inside was going to look terrible but looked clean and well kept. When we ordered our food it didn't take long to receive it. We also ordered an appetizer of shrimp puffs which my wife said tasted good. I received an egg drop soup which was also good. When we get our main dishes they were nice and hot. My wife said she loved the taste of the pati and I also loved the beef broccoli. Over all loved our food and service here would recommend trying it if you are skeptical.

We ordered the duck and crab puffs. The duck was overcooked it almost tasted like pork carnitas and was just as oily and dry. It was also very bland, they didn't even add salt. The sauces were also bland, just overall lacking in flavor. The bao buns were alright but because the duck was dry it just wasn't a good pairing. Overall the food was not good, and our server only came by twice to check on us. While the lady that was cleaning tables was much more helpful. She refilled our waters and was very friendly and attentive. We left her a generous tip for that.
Order over the phone for pick up….very disappointed. The egg drop soup reheated, the steam rice flavorless, zucchini with chicken bland, the BBQ ribs not BBQ & greasy & reheated. Never again….what a waste.

Food is so delicious and very affordable! I always order beef and broccoli and some appetizers like edamames or dumplings. Taken my friends here and it’s our new favorite place to eat, the place is cute and staff is very friendly. Will be coming back to try more of the menu items, definitely recommend!
