If you chose 100 ways to make a restaurant run effectively, The pantry chose 101. So slow and my burger was underwhelming. My son had a slice of pie, he liked it. The food was fair. Honestly, i do not take the time to write unless I am blown away either way, good or bad.The woman taking the orders was painfully slow, i asked for ketchup from a young man, and he pointed and said, go get it,However, the staff wants a 20 percent tip. Will not go back unless held at gunpoint.

Went for breakfast and we were so disappointed. The food was not fresh or hot most of it seemed precooked. Bacon was over done, gravy had some weird herb flavor that should never go in cream gravy, apple strudel flapjacks were just regular flapjacks with cinnamon apples and oats thrown in it, the biscuit was cold and dry. It was our first and last experience

I got to try this gem of a restaurant after my colleagues recommended it for lunch. It’s a quick walk in the square to get here. I immediately was submerged into a Texas version of a hallmark movie! So nostalgic! There’s daily specials or you can choose from the menu and THERE’S PIE!! Get the pie! Most of us had the meatloaf and it was moist and tasty! Green beans and cornbread were great sides. I really enjoyed the chocolate cake and coconut cream pie. I would have preferred it a little sweeter but if semi sweet is your jam then you’ve found your tribe! A great local business with Texas charm! And there’s boozy ice cream that I must try when I return!

We have enjoyed going here for many years. We went about a month ago and the service just wasn't the same. We tried to go for dinner tonight and they decided to close early. No reason given, just not serving food, closed early. Second guessing if I should order my holiday pies like I always do.

Wonderful restaurant with old fashioned feel and great food. Have dined here for lunch a few times, tried something different on the menu at each visit, and have never been disappointed at the quality of the food. Atmosphere is laid back and comfortable. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They have an ice cream counter called The Cocktail Creamery. They make all their own ice cream and have dozens of flavors. Absolutely fabulous ice cream! Enjoy a day of shopping then make The Pantry a must for lunch and an ice cream. You won't be disappointed. Located just off the main town square on Louisiana Street. Highly recommend.

We had not been here in awhile after moving south. Now we know it's not what it used to be. Has new owners mashed potatoes were old and shiny green bean are the frozen type apple pie too much raw filler in the pie

Love the atmosphere and live music. The booze infused ice cream along with my slice of pecan pie, was magnifique! This will be a regular spot for me to just have a good old fashioned good time.

We went as a group to The Pantry for dinner and while the menu has great variety, we were surely disappointed in the quality. It's almost as if they precook everything then warm it up.I ordered the chicken fried steak, which was okay but the mashed potatoes and gravy were all cold. The fried okra had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp. Others in the party had the same experience, luke warm chicken spaghetti, over cooked onion rings (again almost like they were cooked, then recooked to heat up).The restaurant is also self-serve. You order at the counter and they will bring out but pretty much everything else is on your own.The ice-cream store is wonderful but while in a shared location, it is not part of The Pantry.Just okay but for what you spend on food, there are MUCH MORE better options downtown!

Pro Tip: if you have ZERO guest in the building dining in, GET OFF YOUR PHONES and take care of the ones that decide to try you out. One kid I guess in charge of ice cream was on his phone and didn't great us. So we grabbed menus to see what was offered. We walked to the counter, still nothing. Ice cream kid finally went to the back to let someone know we wanted to order. No one came, the only lady we saw was a little, possibly my Asian lady, who did not want to get off her phone to assist us. Once we saw the uncovered pies, being targeted by flies, we knew it was time to leave. Sucks because we come down town twice a week and wanted to try them out.

The Pantry has a great atmosphere and decor. It is a perfect fit in downtown McKinney. There is also live entertainment! You can watch otherwise sweet and kind grandmas and grandpas grow grumpy, frustrated, and eventually enraged at the time it takes the staff to bring their food to the counter. The restaurant is set up like a quick service restaurant but they make everything fresh so expect to wait 20 minutes or more for your meal.

I used to frequent this restaurant in the 90’s… we looked forward to eating here on our shopping trips on the square. Feeling nostalgic, I brought my cousin here and I was SOOOO disappointed! This was the lettuce that came on the pitiful hamburger with a stale bun and barely melted piece of cheddar cheese. (Wish I had thought to take a picture)With all the new restaurant choices in downtown McKinney, I’m surprised they are surviving!

Not much hospitality at all to be honest. There were four of us, and here is what we ordered1. Chicken fried chicken with eggs and potatoes2. Biscuits and gravy with potatoes3. Stuffed French toast cream cheese4. Chicken spaghettiThe first one was okay. The oil was clearly old. Not much flavor. Eggs were okay. Potatoes are just horrible. The second one was dry. Not enough gravy. Plus gravy was cold. Potatoes once again horrible. The third one was okay. The cream cheese didn't look like cream cheese. Didn't really look appealing. Plus there was a typo on the menu so we were expecting strawberries with it, but when they brought it to us there were no strawberries. They ended up giving us strawberries at the end.The fourth one was okay.Overall, it was okay. Food was edible. There are plenty of places with much better food. Don't waste your time.

Gave one star because you cant give none. My husband and I stopped in for sandwiches. Service was terrible, our sandwiches sat for 10 mins getting cold. My husband's Ruben was dry and lacking. Bread was dry, cornedbeef was dry, and barley any meat. My chicken pesto panini was lacking enough chicken to put all of the chicken on one half of the bread to cover the bread. Asked to speak to a manager and waited another 20 mins. Won't be back and do not suggest to anyone.

Regardless of the bad reviews I wanted to give this place a chance. The restaurant is charming with a country appeal. Bonus ice cream parlor as well. It's a find your own seat, and order at the counter. The food was fair. The food arrived warm not hot. The chicken fried steak was good in comparison to most chicken fried steak I've had at Biscuit or Starwood. I was not impressed with the mashed potatoes- that's hard to mess up but ‍. The coffee was old- it probably had been sitting all morning; but okay too. At 1pm I get that they're not likely gonna refresh the pot. The bulk of the problems is service. If customers are already ordering at the counter you'd think staff would make an extra effort and make sure the entire order is fulfilled and brought out. We had to go ask for missing toast, gravy, dressing, and our pies. I'm not sure if I'd return... once I eat my pie, I will know for sure. Bonus points for serving great sourdough toast.
