Great food and drinks!

Awful, horrific people. Three weeks ago (on a Friday) I was seated at a table with my two friends though I explicitly stated I was having a small bite and drinks. Tonight I was denied a table (on a Tuesday) because it was "policy" to not seat people at tables unless they have dinner. In fact, they showed me a small darkened seat in a corner with no table my guest and I could potentially be served a drink and snack (oh lucky us). Who goes to a basement bar to have dinner? Homophobia? Elitism? Just plain mean? Who knows? This is the worst of Midland. I feel awful. I suggested this place to my friend. Never again.

I have no idea why this place is ranked so low in the Midland rankings, but it is hands down the best food in the city. I've been really disappointed in other higher rated places here. It's a bit pricey but the food is amazing. The service was solid. The downstairs bar is pretty cool with a great selection of whiskey, bourbon, scotch, etc. This will be my go to for all my future visits to the city.

I really wanted to love this place. The vibe is so cool but at the end of the day it's a bar so let's talk drinks. We were already a couple of drinks in when one of us ordered whiskey neat. The bartender, a different one than had been serving us, says all of our liquor comes as a double pour that's our policy is that ok? This was the first time we learned that our previous drinks were twice as expensive as we thought.... the drink comes and wow that's a skimpy pour. Friend mentions it and another bartender explains that they do things different and their shot is 1.25 oz so a double is 2.5 oz so you're getting about .5 oz less than you pay for with a double. I wouldn't normally be one to split hairs but hey when you're paying $20/shot it would be nice to get what you pay for. I had been drinking Brut with dinner upstairs and tried to continue downstairs but the bartender brought me a very small pour and said that they were almost out of Brut that i was drinking, that was the last of the bottle but she'd bring me more of "another kind" she just didn't want to mix the two. It tasted very sweet compared to what I'd been drinking so I asked another bartender if I'd been accidentally poured prosecco. He asked the bartender that poured it and she said no it was Brut but he found the bottle and it was indeed prosecco. Like I said I really wanted to love this place... I have no problem with paying premium prices but I do appreciate getting what you pay for. Staff definitely needs training on the wine list to understand that just because they are in the same category ie bubbly doesn't mean they are the same and that they should be attentive to serve a customer what they order or offer alternatives instead of just making a substitution. Short shots for the price and not letting customers know you're going to charge them for a double (that's not) is also crummy business. This place has great potential to be a fabulous high end bar but quit trying to cut corners to increase profits and instead elevate the service to match the price so customers will return.

Small, comfortable and service excellent. But the shining star was the food perfectly complemented by the drinks. Started with signature Manhattan and was one of the best I’ve had. Then went to the crispy brussels. Perfectly balanced flavors. Finished off with the tuna and salmon dishes. Bothe cooked perfectly and great flavor. Superb meal. Only criticism would be the julep—simply too sweet and too much mint.

Little experience with parking while there was an event going on outside, but the atmosphere was awesome. There's a vintage feel and nice old fashioned style to the building, and a cool control panel that shows how the building was monitored and controlled.Food was a little pricy, but it's upscale and well maintained so it's worth it. Drinks were not skimpy on the alcohol and generous and they can even make you an Arnold Palmer! Fish with the caper dill is phenomenal!Classy, friendly, and attentive service. A must if you want a nice event or just getting together.

I lost my old Yelp profile. Opals table.... I've gone a couple times since they opened. I have gotten to know the chef not personally but by his food. I have actually been a fan of his food since "hight foods". I like the fact that I get Vietnamese/Mexican twist in his food. Elevating southern classics and a modern American "farm to table" style. I enjoyed that his produce and meats were sourced locally. At least that is the vibe I got then. Last night I went and was completely disappointed that the level of quality has gone down hill. I enjoy the fact that the menu changes. Last time I was there I got crab claws in garlic butter sauce and southern crispy skin chicken. What wonderful dishes they were. Last night I got bacon wrapped shrimp and the chicken stir fry over a bed of steamed rice. I went in with high expectations and was slapped in the face with a stir fry I could have gotten at the imitation sushi bar. I know, I know I'm the one who made the decision to order it. My fault, my point is.. if you want to be different than other places I believe the chef should stick to their believes, and not downgrade to getting your produce straight from the devils garden "SYSCO". I understand that with COVID prices of local produce have sky rocketed. Financially speaking the major companies are cheaper. I guess the moral of my review is that I can taste the inauthenticity of your food at a high price that I'm not willing to pay for anymore. I'm sorry!
