We had heard of Blacks and were in the area and decided to give it a try. We didn't realize until we got there that it is located where the Rudy's used to be! We ordered brisket which was very tender and flavorful and also ordered some sausage which was also very good. Our daughter wanted the pork rib which was very tender, and full of flavor. For sides, we got creamed corn, pinto beans and mac n cheese. The creamed corn was very creamy and yummy and we LOVED the pinto beans and how they were seasoned! The mac n cheese was just ok. They had plenty of bread slices prepackaged, pickles and onions but not the variety of condiments that Rudy's used to have with jalepenos, banana peppers, etc.... so that was disappointing. Also the BBQ sauces was just meh. Luckily all the meats we had were very full of flavor on their own and didn't need any BBQ sauce!

We stumbled across this place and decided to give it a try. Apparently it is a very popular restaurant. I had a quarter chicken, a quarter lb of brisket, potato salad, and green beans. The meat was delicious. The potato salad was typical and good. The green beans needed seasoning - they were very bland. The BBQ sauce on the table was thin and lacked flavor. I decided to eat the meat without the sauce.

Great moist chicken. Had the half chicken and it was excellent. Side of beans. My wife had the lean brisket which was great also. Their ice tea is one of the best.

Had only been to Black's bbq in Lockhart, so stopping here was a treat. Sides were prepated excellently. The turkey, ribs, and brisket tasted out of to his world. Great staff. Great food. Fantastic.

Being that we were from out of town and wanted to experience the local food we were looking forward to a good barbecue place, so I came here even though the reviews advised against it. I like to give my own thoughts and opinions on places. Well lets just say for once I should have listened to the reviews and not had came here. Cons- they didn’t really have any sides to choose from and since I watch one of the food handlers pour a full cup of water in the beans My family and I decided to go with the cream corn and Potato salad. They were not too great, the cream corn tasted like it was made with white gravy. On to the meats, which is sold by the pound. Very tender but it wasn’t seasoned at all so I thought pouring barbecue sauce on the meat would make up the taste but NOT!!! The water down barbecue sauce in the bottle was horrible! I felt for this food not to be that great this place was expensive and we didn’t finish our food ? Pro- The only thing this place had going for them was their friendly staff. I would not recommend anyone going here for barbecue.

We walked in after lunch we ordered sides first after you go through the rope corral. You can get any number of sides. Then look at the meat menu and order by the pound or half-ring sausage and or ribs or brisket. Plastic utensils cut through the brisket like butter. Drinks are on the side bar with lots of sweet tea (3 Canisters) and one unsweet. Cokes and soft drink standard fountain. Lean brisket or fatty brisket was a challenge - lean was moist - fatty was moist but not overly fatty. Sausage ws a tad bland but still good. They tidy up after you - plug in your phone and head out for a new adventure before or after tubing on the river.

Ordered chopped beef sandwich it was dry seemed like it was left over meat from yesterday that they added grease to. Very stringy and sauce was awful. Also priced very high for what you get.

Having eaten at the original location in Lockhart, and at the Austin location Black's Barbecue in New Braunfels was just as good. Had the brisket (lean) it had a good bark, and smoke ring. It was moist and tender, and their pork ribs were just as good. With a side of potato salad, sliced bread pickles and onions with a glass of ice tea. Finished the meal with an apple cobbler could not have asked for a better lunch.

I have eaten at other Black Barbecue restaurants. I had lean brisket and jalapeno sausage link. The brisket had a nice crisp bark and good smoke ring but even though I ordered lean it was still moist and tender. Tender enough to cut with the plastic fork and no knife required. Nice flavor to meat and nice sauce. Potato salad, slaw, peppers were all good.

The atmosphere is nice and nostalgic. The food however, was sub par. The brisket was tender but cold. The sausage was not tasty at all. The Mac n cheese was dry and had tons of pepper. My toddler said yuck. The potato salad was not very impressive either. Just disappointed.

The food here’s why overpriced. $55 for two of us to have lunch. The meats were fair as was the Vegetables. No rolls only sliced bread. No fried foods of any kind or baked potato. The barbecue sauce is very vinegar tasting. Much better barbecue places elsewhere!

My husband and ate lunch here and while the slicked brisket sandwiches did have a fair amount of meat they were small buns and sandwiches for the price. One sandwich meal and just a sandwich was almost $24 which is high for what we got. And the brisket was too smoky.

I traveled to Texas just to taste test different BBQ restaurants. Brisket is the one meat I wanted to compare. I tried 5 restaurants so far. This place is the best. The cut was great. The meat was tasty, and tender. It was amazing. I didn’t care for the sausage here. It was a little dry. I’d love to come back on another trip.

This bbq joint was new to us but wanted to try it because of a great rating it got at a branch in Lockhart, best in texas. And it was fantastic. we had beef bones, pork ribs and brisket. the beef bones were huge and tender and moist and delicious. the pork ribs had great smoke flavor and the brisket was as described, super tender and smoky and fantastic. we had all our meat unsauced so we could taste the smoking. the bbq sauce they provide is also just right. this is a must bbq stopping place!

For the price, I was not that impressed with the barbecue. I ordered a sample of most of the meats, the only ones I enjoyed were the pork ribs and beef ribs. The sausage didn’t have much flavor and the brisket was dry. I wasn’t impressed with the sides, I tried tried potato salad, coleslaw and green beans. Overall, it was decent barbecue, I was suggest the pork ribs and beef ribs.
