The food is always fresh and delicious. This go round, however, they were letting a few men go around and solicit customers for money/donations. I'm a supporter of many organizations and religious/recovery persons. I would just rather not be solicited while eating inside an establishment. Just a personal thing that totally turned me off. Otherwise this place is a good meal at a very reasonable price and I do like that they help people out, just wish it could have been in a different manner.
Great food and friendly staff. I rated 3 stars on the atmosphere due to narrow tight seating. When we walked in, most of the tables were full. They sat us down at a table, which was next to a countertop that, when seating down, the countertop was literally at head/face level. That felt somewhat uncomfortable. On my next visit, I will wait for a different table.

Has anybody heard of a shortage of hominy.. that’s what I was told when I asked for a small bowl of hominy on the side with a plate of food. They also said they don’t cook it together with the beef tripe. This Esperanza on Ave M has given me this before with no problem then all of a sudden this happened. Whole issue started with a waitress I hadn’t seen there before.
