My friend and I had a wonderful experience here. I am upset that I didn't try this sooner. This is a family run business, and everything is made with a lot of love. You can taste it in the food. The portions are good and the price is more than fair. We enjoyed everything that we tried. Started off with the mint tea, dumplings, and eggplant spread. Finished with the kebab combo plate with saffron rice and lamb shank with saffron rice. Both entrees came with a refreshing salad with yummy yogurt dressing. The whole experience was very pleasant and I can't wait to return.

Besides being weirdly quiet inside and that they give you warm tap water everything else was amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. It was very clean and comfortable. We got two appetizers and they were amazing. Our entrees were perfect. The lamb shank was cooked and seasoned beautifully and is the best lamb I’ve ever had. My husband got the lamb shank with the saffron rice and orange peel, I was stealing from his plate although mine was also very tasty. I absolutely recommend this place!

My wife and visited this restaurant for dinner. It was a wonderful experience all around. The food, atmosphere and service were all top notch. We had the mantoo, combined kabobs, and kabuli palow. They were all independently differently flavourful and when combined together, they added an exponentially better experience. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service is top tier. I would highly recommend this restaurant for those looking to enrich their taste buds.
Azro has been in San Antonio since 2014. We have eaten there many times. The food and ambiance are consistently excellent. Recently we had dinner there and ordered the chai nana (mint, sweet hot tea}, which was the perfect accompaniment for the entire meal. For our appetizer we had borani badenjan (eggplant with a yogurt and meat sauce) which comes with hot Afghan homemade (addictive!) bread. For our main course we had a kabob dish (kabab kofta---omg) and lamb shank (kabuli palow--incredible). Both dishes came with our choice of rice. The kabuli rice is AMAZING. I could have made a meal just with the rice. The raisins and spices make it real comfort food. I wish we had left some room for dessert. Each one we have tried in the past has been wonderful: delicate, just sweet enough, unique. We always feel welcomed at Azro. It appears to be a favorite destination for couples, families, and college students. We are lucky to have Azro in San Antonio.
Great food … the host is passionate about his food! All home food … we tried the Narenj Pallow (lamb with saffron rice and orange candied peels); it is a must !
I ordered pick up and got the mantoo, bolani, and kabuli palow lamb. I don’t usually like lamb but this dish was so good. The lamb was tender and fell off the bone. The mantoo and bolani were also really good.
