Pack your bags and immediately go to El Monte for the best BBQ that you’ll be tasting. Tender, juicy, smoky, and did I mention tender? It was Easter Sunday. They were open for another hour. We were hungry. We headed there after some birding at Government Canyon State Natural Area. No yellow-cheeked warblers today, but we were okay with it because we did get ribs, sausage, Barbacoa tacos with fresh tortillas, creamed corn, and coconut cake at El Monte’s BBQ. The owner and staff were so friendly. The owner even showed us the smoker, which his dad had made from a propane tank in 1978. Having this history to go along with the meal was really special. The owner even gave us some brisket burnt ends to try. Wowza!!! I’ve tasted nothing like this in my life. The smoke was perfect. The seasoning was right on. Thank you El Monte!!

After reading the reviews, we decided to try this place on our last night in San Antonio. It didn’t disappoint! We had brisket, pulled pork and turkey. So good! Also, we loved the creamed corn!

I came here because I had heard great things. I want to say that the staff was nice and the cream corn was excellent so it was to my surprise that the food overall was simply ok. The ambience was intimate if not a little cluttered and dirty. Now I'm going to say something that will make most people gasp. If you go to QT and order a barbecue sandwich on Texas toast it's a hundred times better than what I had. I'm not saying get one of the sandwiches under the heat lamp but order one at the kiosk so it's fresh and you might just be surprised by the quality.

Do you like juicy, flavorful brisket? Smokey sausage? Tasty pulled pork? Yeah, this place has it. The rice has SO MUCH flavor!! Honestly, a great lunch in San Antonio!

Supporting Local Small Owned Minority Businesses! Turkey - 5+ Brisket - 5 Pork Ribs - 4 Sauce - 4 The turkey is almost magical. Tender, moist and seasoned so well. The brisket (I was told this is what needed to be ordered in Texas with some shade thrown at California) and it was delicious. Nice smoke ring and we'll seasoned bark. Brisket was buttery but not so tender it fell apart, which made for an amazing chew. The pork ribs were tender but some parts are a bit dry and not as well seasoned as the other meats. When I was given the bbq sauce, it boosted the pork ribs in flavor and moisture. I would definitely come back if I was in the area.

This is our go to neighborhood BBQ place. Dine in or take out the food slaps every time. The ribs and brisket are our favorite along with the cream corn. Small indoor area but it’s charming and the outdoor area is spacious and nice.

Amazing barbecue in Leon Valley! The brisket was moist and delicious. The sausage was wonderful. The sides were homemade and full of flavor. Homemade tortillas and barbecue sauce add too the entire experience. Not a lot of seating inside, but plenty of seating outside. Friendly service. We will definitely be back!Kid-friendliness: Plenty of seating outside for the kids to run around.
